Rating: Summary: great book for toddlers Review: George's mother wants her son (a dog) to bark. Problem is, he'd rather meow, quack, or oink. Seemingly at wits end, George's mother brings him to the vet. What a surprise when the vet pulls out an array of animals--a duck, pig, and even a cow. So that's why George couldn't bark, right? The surprise ending will most certainly get kids giggling. The text is short and repetitive, perfect for a read-aloud. Feiffer's illustrations are expressive and leap off the page with abounding energy. The book's only flaw is that of it's cover. It's bland and far less interesting than anything found inside. I guess that old saying holds true--don't judge a book by it's cover. This one's a winner!

Rating: Summary: Silly Dog! Review: I got this book for my son, who is 2 years old. He requests it eagerly, and enjoys saying "silly DOG" each time George belts out the wrong sound. This is the type of kids book that will have your child repeating with you, and adding things on his own interactively. It is a fun book with cute illustrations and punchline. As a mom who loves to read fun books, I recommend it for all parents with young kids.
Rating: Summary: A great read-aloud book for your toddler. Review: I love reading this book aloud to my now 14 month old daughter because it's alot of fun. She's owned it since she was 9 months, and, at first, would simply listen to me read. Now she points, tries to make animal noises, and has me read it several times in a row. It is currently one of her favorites. I would put it in the same category as other predictable/cumulative books such as "Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?," "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," "If You Give a Mouse A Cookie," and "Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom." Unlike these books, however, there is more street language than the ritualized formal speech of these other books. Some other reviewers are critical of the use of "go" instead of "say" and "went" instead of "said." I'm not convinced that it is not proper to refer to animals making their respective noises in this manner. Visually, the use of color, the sharp outlines, simple backgrounds and humor (check out the vet's ponytail)are outstanding. I would recommend this as a great read-aloud story.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Doggone Funny! Review: I read a review of this book that intrigued me enough to buy it.... 6 years ago! I read it to my son when he was little and it quickly became his favorite. He would even tell people all about George the "goofy" dog. Eventually he moved on to other books over the years. Then, shortly after his baby sister arrived, I quietly watched unnoticed as he brought out the book and read it to her! He told me later that he had "shared" the book with his sister. He was so thrilled to be able to pass on the fun of the animal sounds. I would recommend this book to all parents! It will be a much loved book that your child won't soon forget!
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I think this is a really good kindergarten book to read because it has alot of repetition which kids at this age need. The story-line is also really cute which keeps kids entertained.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Doggone Funny! Review: Kids will laugh hard at the drawings, especially of George's exasperated mother ! This is a classic and a keeper.
Rating: Summary: Read it again and again! Review: My 6-year-old sister brought this book home from her school library at Thanksgiving and read it to me at least 20 times over the course of a week. The words are easy for her to read, like "vet" instead of "veterinarian" (she's not quite there yet). The use of "go" instead of "say" is common language among children and even adults (I even say it sometimes, and I'm over the age of 21!). This book is charming, engaging, and the perfect book for either a young child being read to by an adult, or a new reader looking for an exciting story. My sister loves to make the animal noises and express her shock and delight when the vet pulls out assorted animals. She even has her own theory about why George says "hello" in the end. I'm buying this for her for her own library.

Rating: Summary: Funny for the young and old(er)! Review: My son is not quite talking yet but whenever we finish this book he signs using his sign laguage "more more" and we read it again. It is one of the few books I enjoy reading over and over and over again. We got it and now give it as a gift. Highly recommended for toddlers and their parents.
