Summary: Magical Pictures and Sumptuous Writing
Review: The Twelve Dancing Princesses is a wonderful, magical story in it's own right. Marianna Mayer has woven this tale with sumptuos words that make this book delightful to read out loud. The drawings are so lovely, detailed, and beautifully drawn that both my daughter and I have spent hours looking at the pictures! This is an important book for its beauty and its ability to activate your imagination.

Summary: Fairy Tale
Review: This is the tale of twelve sisters that were princesses. They would sneak off every night but no one could figure out where they went or whom they went with. People tried to catch them leaving but no one could. They would just find the princesses shoes all worn out in the morning with no sign of where they went. They father decided to figure out where they went once and for all. He had suitors sleep in the castle and try to follow the princesses to where they were going. No one could stay awake to find out where they went. One day a man came into the castle with a plan to follow them. He did not drink the wine that they gave him because he knew they put a sleeping potion in it. Once they knew that the man was asleep they tried to sneak out but he was only pretending to be asleep. He had a cloak to put on to make him invisible. He followed the princesses and find out where they went. He was able to pick a princess to marry.
This is a really great tale. It shows that many times the people that you think will be able to do something can't and ones that you would never expect to do something great surprise you. The man that finally found out where they went was not the most handsome or respected man but he was the one that figured out how to find out the true place where the princesses go. I think this really teaches the tale that you don't have to be beautiful to really do someone. Being smart can go a long way.
