Rating: Summary: Who's In A Family Review: It's great to have another book for kids on this very under-represented subject in literature. I do read this book to my kids but change some of the wording as I go.This book is written nicely for a parent with biological kids who now has a same-sex spouse. For those of us who built our families WITH our same-sex spouse, this book can confuse our kids. The author never refers to "my two fathers" or "my two mothers"...it's always "dad and his PARTNER." That just doesn't apply for my family but we're so used to substituting words in books that the inconvenience is minimal...until my kids can read themselves!
Rating: Summary: SAD, VERY SAD INDEED Review: This book pays tribute to the various dysfunctional families created by today's downspiraling, confused world. You have families comprised of lesbians raising the sad children from previous marriages and/or artificial insemination, families comprised of homosexual dads who have coerced politically correct government agencies into letting them adopt small children. You have elderly grandparents who have been forced to take on the parenting role because their selfish children refuse to accept responsibility. You have multi-divorced families referred to in sanitized fashion as "blended". Though various diverse families are discussed the main thrust of this book is promotion of the homosexual agenda. Maybe one day there will be a book written about mothers and fathers who get married and then actually stay together happily while raising the kids. We can only hope books like this one will go the way of the dinosaur very soon.
Rating: Summary: Great for Non-traditional Families Review: We searched for months for a book for our son that showed ALL types of families. This one hit the mark. While the illustrations may not be museum quality, the message is clear and understated. We have used this in our Sunday School class and based a Sunday service on the idea that "Families Valued" are not all plain vanilla. An excellent book to validate YOUR family's configuration.
