Rating: Summary: An Excellent Tale!! Review: After writing a Newbery Honor-winning book called Ella Enchanted, Gail Carson Levine has done it again in this excellent tale! Gail Carson Levine writes of two princesses who live in Bamarre. One of the princesses is Addie (Adeline) who is shy and fearful and her sister, Meryl is brave and bold. They had made a promise that when Addie is married and safe, Meryl could begin her adventures through the world. Unfortunately, after Addie's chambermaid Trina and their mother had caught the Gray Death disease and died, Meryl is sick with it as well. Addie gathers all her courage to seek the cure to save her sister with the gifts she recieve from the young sorceror Rhys and her friends. Addie takes her seven-leagues boots and her spyglass left by her mother and the enchanted tablecloth and cloak from Rhys also with a some shy love. Addie begins her dangerous adventure meeting tricky spectors, a clever interesting dragon, and many more creatures. Also adding a bit of romance for Addie and a magical ending. Any fans of magical creatures and princesses will fall in love with this book!!
Rating: Summary: Gail Carson Levine really does it now!! Review: I have read a lot of Gail Carson Levine's books, and after Ella Enchanted, I like this one best. The book is about two princesses of the kingdom Bamarre. They are very different -- Princess Addie is fearful and shy; Princess Meryl is bold and brave. Meryl always wants to go on adventures, but Addie doesn't like it when she does. Addie makes Meyrl promise that she won't go on adventures until Addie gets married. Dispite their differences they mean the world to each other. Then Meryl is stricken with the worst sickness ever know -- The Grey Death. Addie, terrified and unprepared, goes on a quest to find the cure. She must battle many different monsters who are in her path. Plus, she has to get back in time to save Meyrl, who's life is dropping by the day...I have to say that Gail Carson Levine really makes a fairy tale good! This book has scary, amusing, and even romantic parts. I reccomend this book to everyone who would like to read a really good fairy tale.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS MY FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I love this book. Meryl and Addie are two princesses in the kingdom of Bamarre, a magical land full of dragons, spectors, ogres, sorcerers, and more. Meryl, the braver of the two sisters, has a dream to fight the evil creatures that are attacking Bamarreans until the land is safe. Addie, however, just wants to stay as far away from spiders as possible. That is, until Meryl gets the grey death. Nobody who has gotten the gray death has lived, and nobody will unless "cowards find courage and rain falls all over Bammare". Unfourtunately, Addie's cowardly father isn't much help, and it doesn't look like rain. So, while her sister is fighting the horrible grey death, Addie leaves the castle alone to find the cure for grey death. While on this great adventure, she conquers and ogre, fights gryphons, and gets past a dragon to save her sister. Time is running out, the grey death has left Meryl with only a few days left to live. With the help of a sorcerer names Rhys, some villagers, and a few fairies, this book has an amazing twist at the end. Everything about this book is perfect. (except maybe the binding on mine, but thats only because I read it so often and keep it with me on trips.) I love this book, and I know anybody in their right mind will too!
Rating: Summary: I Love This Book! Review: I may have been biased when I checked this book out of the library, thinking " Oh Gail Carson Levine! I love her books! " Even if you are not a fan of fantasy books, this one may get you hooked into reading more of the divine Mrs. Levine's books. They have creatures like fairies, dragons, and specters in them. This story is about two princesses who are sisters and happen to be best friends. Addie is afraid of almost everything and Meryl is brave and dreams of being a knight one day. The sisters make a pact to always stay together, no matter what. When Meryl falls ill with the Gray Death, the disease that killed the sisters' mother, Addie decides to find the cure and sets out in hope of finding it. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat until you read the very last page.
Rating: Summary: A Really Great Read!!! Review: Okay, you're going to love this book!!!!
Addie and Meryl are sisters and best friends though they are like day and night. Meryl has always been the brave, the strong, the protector of shy, scared Addie.
But when Meryl falls to the Gray Death, the roles get reversed and Addie must find her courague to go out of her secure little world and find the cure to her sister's illines.
On her quest she'll face her deepest fears... with Meryl's - and Bamare's - fate in her hands Addie's time is running out.
Look out for other charactes, like Rees, Bella, Dru and much more!!
Oh, and the Dragon rocks!!!
Rating: Summary: Tale of bravery and honour Review: Step follows step, hope follows courage ... The Two Princesses of Bamarre is an unusual tale of bravery and honour. The transformation and self discovery of Addie and the twist in the ending really left a mark in my heart. Very encouraging story and may the tale of The Two Princesses live for ever.
Rating: Summary: An interesting book Review: The book Two Princesses of Bamarre starts out great. One princess, Princess Meryl, plans to someday rid her land of evil and have wonderful adventures. Her sister Addie is frightened of manythings, and finds comfort in Meryl. But when Meryl catches the Gray death, an illness whose victoms waste away in weariness, her plans seem dashed. No one has ever caughten the Gray death and lived, and no one will until (as an old poem says) "The timid find courage and rain falls over all Bamarre." Princess Addie is fearful of many thing, but she is even more afraid of losing her sister, so she sets off, with gifts from friends, to find the cure of the Gray Death herself. After some adventure, she is caught by a dragon, and taken back to its cave. Dragons know many things, but Addie at first cannot persuade the dragon to tell her the secret, and she cannot escape. From inside the cave, Addie looks home to Meryl through her magic spyglass and sees that she has entered the second stage of the Gray Death, a deep slumber. Meryl only has 12 more days to live. I thought this was a good book, but I was dissapointed in the ending. In the end, the girls can no longer be sisters, and one will out live the other. This is why I have only given it four stars, I do not think the ending was very good.
Rating: Summary: This was a good book!! Review: The perfect gift for the serious 10 year old who you know will look deep into the book.
Meryl promisies her sister Addie that she will not persue her dream of fighting monsters to find the cure for the Gray Death until after Addie is happily wed. However, when Meryl gets the Gray Death, Addie feels guilty that Meryl will have not fought one thing. Addie, the timid sister who always relied on her brave and spunky sister Meryl, sets out on a quest to find the cure to the Gray Death.
As Addie fights dragons and gryphons, she discovers the spunkiness and wittyness inside herself, while falling in love with a sorcerer.
There are the typical fantasy-book things, cloaks of invisibility, etc, but this is a very deep and moving book, to me at least, and even has some scary parts.
I read it again and again and never tire of it, especially with the surprise ending.
Enjoy my daughter's favorite book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: There are a lot of Tolkein clones and steryotyped fantasy writers in this world, but you can be sure Gail Carson Levine is not one of them. When the country of Bamarre is struck by a deathy plauge, the two completely different sisters, one almost-cowardly-but-not-quite and the other a would-be-hero decide to do something about it... but things don't work out quite as planned....
