Summary: Great techniques for intrinsic motivation!
Review: This is a useful book for teachers, students and their parents. I used this as the text for a high school "Success Seminar" for students struggling to attain their best grades. The techniques used in this book allow students to look closely at what they do and why they do it in regards to their present learning strategies. Then the author provides suggestions to change poor strategies into successful ones. My students benefitted from the emphasis on intrinsic motivation. The committment to action, goal setting for future success, is a very appropriate culmination of the lessons. The author is correct to involve all the student's teachers as well as his/her parents. Developing genuine motivation in a student who is performing at a mediocre level needs a focused approach with definite strategies since bad habits need to be broken and a new mind-set needs to be learned.
