Rating: Summary: Random sampling of nature pictures/vocabulary Review: According to the Parent's Guide, these cards can be grouped into earth, water and sky. It is marketed for ages 9 months and up, and it seems some of the concepts would be difficult for a child that young to grasp, e.g. wetlands, wave, and comet. Also, I am not sure how you could explain to a very small child the difference between the "water" card and the "ocean" card (and possibly the "sand" card and "beach" card which is an aerial view).
The card for "sun" does not look like the sun a child would be familiar with in the sky and may be confused with the "sunset" card. Also, you will have to make the distinction between "sky" and "clouds," as well as "earth" and "planet."
The remaining cards are rocks, rainbow, moon, stars, sea jellies, fish, soil, flower, mountain, coral, sea star, crab, shell, grass, tree, and leaf.
Rating: Summary: We love these flash cards! Review: My 2 year old has been raised on Baby Einstein products since birth. We have enjoyed the melodic strains of Baby Bach, learned colors with Baby Van Gogh, explored words with Baby Shakespeare and are now expanding his knowledge with Baby Einstein Nature Discovery Cards. These flash cards are printed on heavy card stock. Each card is large enough for his little hands to manipulate and have a glossy finish that makes it easy to wipe clean should his little hands be sticky at the time (which they usually are). There are 29 cards in this set. On the front of each card is a beautiful photograph of the subject (ocean, mountains, grass, sea jellies, flower) with the title of the subject clearly spelled out. On the back of each card are simple facts for baby to understand. Example: On the "Tree" card, the facts are as follows - Trees have been on earth longer than any other living thing. Can you think of a kind of tree that many people decorate during a holiday? Trees are very important to people and animals. Trees give us oxygen, food, shelter, wood and paper products. Trees are the largest living thing on earth. Some animals live in trees. Can you name and animal that lives in a tree? These cards are beautifully made. My son loves looking at them, and has shown an amazing recall of what he has learned. Included in the pack of cards is a Parents Guide on how to use them as well as 4 blank cards that you can use to make your own nature cards. I highly recommend Baby Einstein Nature Discovery Cards to the parents of any young child. There's a big world out there for them to discover and Baby Einstein makes it possible. Even when you can't get to the ocean or mountains, Baby Einstein will bring the ocean and mountains to you.

Rating: Summary: Long-time favorite Review: My twin 17 month olds just love these cards and have for several months now. My twins chew and bend these cards continuously, but the cards have held up very well. My 17 m/os can pick out the sun (for example) when I group a few of them together (how we play with them at this age). They love carrying them around, pointing at the pictures, and hearing me tell them what they are. My 5 y/o also likes these cards and I use them to teach her reading (I cover up the pictures and show her the words). Good investment!
Rating: Summary: Fun tool, beautiful pictures, but. . . . Review: Our twenty month old loves the Baby Einstein flashcards (the animals set in particular). The pictures are clear and crisp and beautifully rendered. I agree with everything the previous reviewer said, but one thing was missing that bothers me about the cards. They are printed on a fairly thin cardboard material. While the enclosed brochure says the cards are sturdy enough for young hands to handle, they are also thin enough for young hands to bend and mash! After two days, about half a dozen cards are bent in half and feature large creases. Certainly the cards are still functional and have not been severely damaged. But I wish they were made of more sturdy/durable materials, more like the board books themselves, that could not be so easily bent. I imagine there will be ripped cards at some point. We'll try to discourage him from bending them in the future (HA!), and in the meantime probably buy a second set for when the first one wears out . . .
