Rating: Summary: I loved the book; it was suspensful. Review: A fictional, action-packed, suspenseful story! Big Red was excellent. I loved it. Over this summer I have found a new favorite book: Big Red. The characters' personalities were so lifelike. Danny, who fell in love with Red, the first time he saw him, worked as hard as he could to make Red happy. Red was a beautiful Irish setter. Danny worked for Red's owner, Mr. Haggin. Mr. Haggin owned a giant Wintapi estate. He let Danny take care of Red. Danny did every thing he could for Red and Red was very grateful. He took to Danny like a snail to a rock. Red was Danny's best friend and nobody could change that. All this took place in the Wintapi wilderness. Somewhere near the end of the book another dog comes. Her name was Sheila Macguire. Danny knew that she would bear a big litter and that all the pups would be champions. He wanted Red to breed with her. Red did not like Sheila because Red thought Danny was giving her more attention. But finally Red came around and this situation ended with Red being a father to two sons and three daughters. My favorite character was Red because I love dogs and even though Red was not a person I liked his personality (or dogality). One of my favorite scenes was when Red cornered Old Majesty, a bear, in the beginning of the book. The thing that stood out for me was the special bond that Danny had with Red. They always understood each other. I would recommend this book to most of my friends because as far as I know they all love dogs and adventures. On a scale of one to ten I would rate this book a nine. I rated it this way because this book seemed so real and yet it was not. It was just awesome. I really and truly loved this book and I will leave it at that.
Rating: Summary: Big Red Review: Big Red is a book about a boy and his dog. One day the boy named Danny was hunting the legendary bear named Old Majesty, who had killed one of Mr. Haggins Cows and Danny was trying to kill Old Majesty many of times before. Though Danny only found the remains of the bull the bear had killed. Danny liking Mr. Haggin guted the bull so the meat wouldn't spoil. So he went and told Mr. Haggin at his huge estate and saw this magnificent red looking dog. All Danny knew was that the dog was an Irish Setter and he thought it was a hunting dog so he didn't really pet him too much, cause Mr. Haggin wouldn't like that. Danny loved the looks of the dog and felt like the dog was just looking right through him. Danny knew there was something specail about this dog. Well he went on and told Mr. Haggin about how he only found the bull and that he guted him. Mr. Haggin was thankful and gave Danny two dollars. Danny asked Mr. Haggin about the dog. He says he was only a show dog and was brought for seven thousand. Danny went home and told his dad what happend about the dog. Danny and his dad live on Mr. Haggin's place and do odd jobs for money. Too shorten it down big red gets hurt, Danny winds up with the dog and they have many adventures.

I liked Big Red because it was adventurous, exciting and always had some action going on. There was hardly anything I didn't like about it. Rating: Summary: A classic tale of a boy and his dog Review: I read this book in 9th grade, about 15 years ago, and am purchasing it to read to my daughters. If you love dogs, and have ever felt that special bond with a dog, you will enjoy this book. The writing is about a 6th grade level, so it is an easy read. I would recommend most of Jim Kjelgaard's books - although they are all very similar in form and structure.
Rating: Summary: Big Red Is a great book Review: The book "Big Red" is a book that tells of a boy that loves his dog. This book is a perfect example of mans best friend. Danny and Red have alot of exciting adventures. The author of the book is Jim Kjelgaard. He is also the author of "Irish Red", and "Outlaw Red."
The main points of this book are very obvious I think. The main points are to trust your friends when times get rough. Also to believe in yourself. Alot of people don't think that they can do alot of things but they realy can. You need to give people a second chance because we all do things we don't mean.
To me this book is a real confidence builder. This book is realy somthing special if you ask me. So if you love stories about dogs or just like adventure books "Big Red" is for you. I rated this book good for one reason only, and that is because it's a good book.
Rating: Summary: IT WAS GREAT!! A DOUBLE READER Review: The book Big Red is filled with excitement and an unbreakable love between a dog and a boy named Danny. Danny is a fur trapper who lives on Indian owned land called the Wintapi. Danny quickly falls in love with his next door neighbor Mr. Haggins' dog named Red, an Irish setter. Red and Danny become great friends and go to a dog show together. But unfortunately they lose the dog show because they didn't practice enough. Red and Danny both benefited from the quality time they spend together. Mr. Haggin and Danny discuss that they have another problem that they must focus on more than the dog show. A Grizzly bear named Old Majesty, who has been feared for many generations, has been eating Mr. Haggins' bulls and sheep. Danny and Mr. Haggin have to find a way to kill or get rid of Old Majesty with help from Red. Danny then figures out that Red is the only weapon that they have to put Old Majesty at bay so they can get a clean shot at him. Red is trained to be an attack dog and they teach him to obey Danny and his other trainer Mr. Haggin. Danny trains Red to be the most fearsome Irish setter on the whole Wintapi land by teaching him to hunt rabbits and moles in the yard. Danny is a risk-taker because he went out with Red and even though he was scared; he stuck to his plan to kill Old Majesty and didn't travel aside it. He had one goal and that was to get rid of the bear that was causing the land so much turmoil. Overall, this is a book of great courage and great love shown by Danny and Red. The moral of this book is to not be scared of what you have never been through, but to think things through, set your goals and pursue them. Even though Danny was scared he had the courage to pursue his goal. This book shows what it is like to be a risk-taker and I hope that everyone can take risks but only after thinking them out.
