Summary: A favorite in this house
Review: Both my babies love to have this book read to them. I've found both boys trying to read it to themselves (even upside down).
The illustrations are great and so retro. The rhyme is easy for kids to remember so it's fun to pause and let them say the word.
The storyline's interesting enough. I love the dum ditty dum ditty dum dum dum. The whole rhyme, the whole story, has a beat to it; a rhythm to it. It's a good book. It's a great way to get your kids to love reading, love the sound of the language, and love the rhythm of the language.

Summary: Catchy
Review: Catchy and attention getting. Can play act to.
"Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb" "Dum ditty Dum ditty Dum Dum Dum"
(I have this book memorized)The pictures are (a bit dated) of monkeys "monkeys drum and monkeys hum" drumming and humming and rhyming and shaking hands, etc. Perfect for younger readers 1-4---watch them memorize this faster than you!

Summary: Just not the same
Review: I had Hand Hand Finger Thumb book as a kid and I read it to my destructive two year old twins who tore it up when I wasn't looking. So I ordered this one, but was disappointed to find it wasn't all there. There are some pages that were on the original book that aren't in this new book. Other wise it's a great book, fun to read with the kids, and I like how easily the card board pages turn. I just wish I could have back the book I used to read to them with all the parts.

Summary: Michelle Gordon
Review: I was raised on this book as a child, and have only the fondest of memories. My book that I had as a child was a first edition hardback that today is quite worn, but still in great use. My 14 month old boy has adopted this book as his favorite as well. Yet, 14 month olds don't fully understand the concept of not ripping pages. So recently I purchased the board book version of Hand Hand Fingers Thumb. I was extremely disapointed that six pages from the original book were omitted! The part omitted is the 'Hello Jack, Hello Jake... and Bye Bye Jake, Bye Bye Jack, and also the Hands with hankerchiefs blow blow blow part. While the book is still a great reading and listening tool, I was very disapointed that this great little board book, that will stand my sons pounding, is abridged.

Summary: Have, Have This Book
Review: My 14 month old son loves this book. We can tell him "Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb" and he runs to his room, climbs on his chair and finds it on his dresser with all his other books. It is definitely his favorite. He loves the "dum ditty dum ditty dum dum dum" part. We like that it is short and fun to read. Would definitely recommend it!

Summary: Love it!
Review: My daughter LOVED this book from the minute she discovered it. We had it for a month or so and she never picked it up. One day I read it to her and then we had to read it at least 15 times a day. It is simple to read and understand with easy words like hand, fingers, thumb, drum, monkey.... that kids can relate to. The Seuss rhythm and rhymes are magical for children. I had to hide it now and then just to get a break. Then she discovered her other Dr. Seuss books and loves them all. A great choice!

Summary: A favorite passed on to the next generation...
Review: My son would NOT sit through a book at 15 mos. old. I decided to bring out my childhood favorite. It's new name is the "Monkey Book" and it is read several times a day, every day. He's 18 mos. old now and has it memorized. The book doesn't even have to be open and he knows the next line. He loves this book so much, that sometimes he just gives the monkeys kisses as he looks at the pictures, narrating when he feels compelled. Highly recommend this book to anyone having trouble getting their young ones to appreciate reading. My son now has a love of reading that I thought would never blossom 3 months ago.

Summary: Pages removed from earlier printing
Review: My two-year-old son loves this book. He discovered my old copy and I ordered this new one for him. I was sad to discover that several pages from the middle of the book have been removed in the newer printing. The part missing is his favorite part of the book. I wish they had not been removed and cannot understand why they would be....

Summary: Highly recommended by our speech therapist
Review: Our speech therapist recommended this book because of its simple lively rhyming and easy rhythm. My sons were not 2 1/2 yet and not saying many words. But they certainly understood hands and drums and rings and monkeys, so they took to it from the beginning.

Unfortunately, it hasn't become a favorite of theirs. I'm not sure if the colors are too "earthy" (mostly brown, yellow and orange) for them or if they just have other stronger interests (horses and firetrucks and construction trucks right now at a little over 2 1/2) However, I like to pull it out and read it simply because *I* enjoy the rhyme and rhythm.

But as the therapist pointed out, it is a great book for early readers and for toddlers to participate in the actions and to "read" (memorize). And it uses lots of sounds that are often difficult for children (th, ending consonant sounds on one syllable words). So while the color scheme is not the bright primary colors of many toddler books, I still recommend it for the easy and fun reading.

Summary: fingers, thumbs, monkeys, drums, woohoo!
Review: This one was an immediate hit with my 13 month old, and now, two months later, he insists I read it to him over and over again. The "Dum ditty dum ditty dum dum dum" refrain is intoxicating, even for an adult reader, and the classic artwork humorous and fun. This book is definitely one worth buying--it will capture your young one's attention immediately with its rhythm.

The highest recommendation.
