Rating: Summary: A great book that allows active child participation. Review: "Go away, Big Green Monster has delighted my preschooler for nearly a year now. After reading it to him only 2 or 3 times he had memorized nearly every page. Now when we crack open the book, he reads it to me first and then I read it to him. He especially likes the last page because he can firmly state with power, "Go away, Big Green Monster and don't come back, until I say so!" This book is also a good tool in color and shape recognition.
Rating: Summary: Frightening for my son Review: I checked this book out at my library because I thought it was the cutest, cleverest book. When I read it to my son who is nearly three he loved it so much that we had to read it five times through. Later he woke up screaming and crying and is terrified of monsters now. Even though I tried to use language from the book totell him that he can make the monster GO AWAY!, he is still frightened. He wants nothing to do with the book now. I think he is having trouble because we had always told him before that there were no monsters and now he has a strong image of a monster in his mind which terrifies him.
Rating: Summary: I love this book Review: I love this book, not only is it a fun book to read, but it helps children learn how to make the monsters go away when they are scared. I not only read this book to all my children at school but I also read it to my five month old son. He listens to me and the colors really catch his eyes.
Rating: Summary: Jack's Monster Book Review: I've been a fan of Ed Emberley's books since I was a child and used his series to learn to draw. My son loves this book - we've already gone through 3 copies of it! We've also had several friends ask us for copies for their own children - haven't met one yet who doesn't like the book. And, it's great for kids who are afraid of monsters since they can tell the Big Green Monster to GO AWAY and he does. Also great for groups of kids who enjoy yelling GO AWAY at the top of their lungs. A definite must on the kids shelf.
Rating: Summary: Come back little big green monster! Review: I've enjoyed reading through the vast variety of responses to this book, and mostly they bring up some interesting points. "Go Away Big Green Monster" is ostensibly a book that is meant to (and I'm quoting the back of the book here) "chase away their (kids') nighttime monsters". All well and good. This doesn't give the book much in the way of plot development or character analysis, but it sure does create one heckuva scary bed time monster. By flipping through the pages the book slowly creates, then disposes with a big green boogie man.
I was a bit amazed at the cut out construction of this tale. It's cleverly done and expertly woven. But as some reviews of this book have pointed out, it's probably a book best written for kids who ALREADY are afraid of big green monsters. If you've a child who's never considered that monsters might be out there with "a big red mouth with sharp white teeth" this might suddenly inspire them to become afraid for the first time. Sort of the antithesis of what the book is supposed to accomplish. I mean, it's a cute book. No question. Just make certain that you're handing it to a little one that is not innocent in the ways of monsters and monster appearance.
Oh, and as a personal side note, I love the cover. The big green monster stares out at the viewer in a perfect Kilroy-esque appearance (his big ole nose hanging like a blue cucumber over the yellow wall). Any book that references Kilroy is a-okay by me.

Rating: Summary: My son is obsessed with this book! Review: My son is 2 years old and his teachers read this book to his class at daycare. All of the kids are obsessed with it and beg for it to be read. They can't get enough. I bought it for my son so we could read it at home and he carries it everywhere he goes. It brings a smile to his face every time we read it. He can identify each part on the monster face and point to his as well. All I can say is BUY THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: my son takes this book everywhere Review: My son's preschool featured this story, so I decided to buy it for him. He loves to make the monster GO AWAY!!!. I just bought Glad Monster, Sad Monster. I'm sure he'll have the same reaction to this story. It has really sparked an interest in reading and creative story telling.
Rating: Summary: New Fears Review: Our two year old never had any problems with playing/sleeping in her room until this book about the monster with the sharp teeth was read to her in a class. Now she gets scared and yells out "Monster!" This has been on a daily basis since exposure to the book two weeks ago. Sure the book ends with telling the monster to go away, but this affirms that monsters exist in the first place. Even though other reviewers have had no issues, based on our personal experience we would caution on reading to the very young.
Rating: Summary: Jack's Monster Book Review: This is the favorite book of my son's pre-school two year old class. They are not frigtened by the story and seem to like retelling the story back to the teacher. My son enjoyed this book so much at school we bought it for his Christmas present and likes to look at it most days. Very good for children 2-6 years of old.
