Summary: Revolting
Review: As a parent of a 5 year old I was shocked when the teacher sent this home for reading homework. A child this age doesn't need to see images of a child without a head, or half a body, or being consumed by fire. My child has a great respect for teachers. Just because a teacher doesn't look like the supposed all-American female doesn't mean she's going to be a monster. Do we want to teach our children fear of teachers? The age rating on this book is too young. We're the kind of parents who screen T.V., movies and even commercials. Violence in the media is rampant. Foster goodness before evil.

Summary: HILARIOUS!!!!!!
Review: I'm surprised by the other more recent reviews on this one... I read it to my class, and they LOVED IT! I can't wait to get the entire set, so that they can read more about the lovely imaginations of the "Black Lagoon" series. Great illustrations, vocabulary, and descriptive imagery!!! Definitely a keeper!

Summary: FUN FUN FUN!
Review: My son loves this and all books by mike thayler. They are fun and funny! Most have a lesson also (not to pre-judge a new situation or person. The writing is snappy and pun-filled. The pictures are a hoot. This is a book that is read and re-read and is a favorite "car-book" Highly reccommened.

Summary: Revolting
Review: Parents beware! This message of fear of the unknown can be given in infinitely better ways. The writing style is for a very young child. However, before you find out the main character is having a dream, children in his class have been beheaded, half eaten, turned to ashes, entirely eaten and "is digesting", or had a head shrunk to the size of a pin (picture given of small head on girl's body). At naptime the teacher says "Everyone who still has one, put your head on your desk."
I do not find this flight of fantasy amusing. Where, one might wonder, did this boy become exposed to such violent images? This book is more likely to create new fears for your children, than to calm their fears.
I also reacted a little to the teacher ending up as a blond with, if not blue eyes (they are just black dots), then blue eye shadow.
Violence and stereotyping. Worst children's book I have read in a long time.

Review: The Teacher from the Black Lagoon

Mike Thalerwrote the book The Teacher from the Black Lagoon. Jared Lee did the all of the wonderful pictures. It was published by Scholastic books. The book is 29 pages long and I would recemend it for 6-8 year olds.It might be a little to hard for kids under 6 and to easy for kids older then 8.The little boy is afraid of who he would get for his teacher because it is the first day of school. The boy falls asleep and starts to dream about something.(YOU WILL FIND OUT IN THE BOOK)Then the bell rings and he wakes up. My favorite part is when he was deaming because it was telling what he thought his day would be like.I was afraid who I ould get for my teacher. I think they should of put in how the rest of the year went. And I ...loved this book and you would too!

Summary: Meet my teacher, the fire-breathing, student-eating, ogre.
Review: This is a picture/story book describing the fears and reservations a student experiences on his first day of class. A cute and funny tale uses exaggerations to make the point that new experiences are really nothing to fear.

Summary: Warts, whips, dandruff, and more...
Review: Through his vivid descriptions and outlandish characters, Mike Thaler provides excellent entertainment for readers of all ages. The Teacher from the Black Lagoon goes the extra mile, playing on the familiar fear of the first day of school. With the perfect blend of humor, action, and craziness this book brings out the kid in all of us.

Review: wonderful! He enjoys reading and re-reading them. He's had them for about 2 years now and continues to enjoy them! We take them in the car and they are perfect to read quietly or to read outloud and make your parents laugh out loud! The only problem with this book series is that there aren't more of them :-( This series makes wonderful birthday gifts....
