Summary: Comforting
Review: There's something about a book taking place in the countryside and between late 19th to early 20th century that makes it irresistible to me. The language and the story are lovely. It's one of those innocent books that is comforting because you know for the most part it carries only light issues and will end happily ever after.

The character Anne is an annoyance at first. She is self-centered, shallow, and throws tantrums at a drop of a pin, among other things. Fortunately as the story progresses she becomes a more decent young lady.

I like the book, but it is not to say it has no down points. For one thing, it seems that the time kind of jumps. The first half of the book concentrates on Anne and her first few months trying to settle down, and then she has a growth spurt from the second half of the book on. In addition, the rest of the characters other than Anne herself and maybe Marilla seems to be underdeveloped. Matthew, the socially-anxious, disappears from the book for the most part. Likewise, the boy hired to help him out is only mentioned about 2 times. If he's really that helpful, surely he and Anne should've connected somehow? But apparently he and Anne have never even met. In fact, the way Anne grows and changes is also somewhat ambiguous. Hopefully Montgomery would clear up the ambiguity in her other books.

Summary: A Great Read
Review: This novel is a delight and a rare gem in classics; charming and endearing. Anne Shirley is an orphaned, sensitive eleven-year-old child and starved of love; yet is imaginative, passionate, and spirited. She is adopted by brusque Marilla Cuthbert, who is hard to please and cold. But Green Gables is a lovely place which Anne immediately loves, with its 'scope for imagination' and Anne soon builds many good chums in her School. Anne's delightful, human impulsiveness makes her falls into endless scrapes and adventures; in between she meets 'kindred spirits' and discovers more charms of the nature around her; and this keeps the book captivating and compelling. This book 'Anne of Green Gables' delicately written and descriptive, full of subtle humour and brightness.

Lucy Maud Montgomery is a wonderful writer and her prose and poetry alike fully capture the spirit of what she tries to portray. It is a must-read for all.

Summary: Such a beautiful edition, to be treasured!
Review: This story is such a sweet classic for all ages, and is especially fun for younger children. It is this story of Anne, the redheaded orphan who was adopted because of an innocent mistake by Marilla and Matthew, two elderly siblings who had wanted a boy, not a girl. But, not wanting to be cruel to the poor child, who had no where to go, they took her in and began to raise her properly. Anne has many exciting adventures in this story, including getting in a fight with Gilbert, a boy from school; Anne getting stuck out on the water after she plays with her friends that she is dead while lying in a canoe; and Anne trying to die her red hair, which she hates.
I love this version of the book, because it is hardback and has many black and white pictures, and a few colored pictures to keep readers interested. I have owned this book since I was in elementary school, and it is still in GREAT condition because the pages are of great quality.
