Summary: Harris and Me
Review:
This is a story about an 11-year-old boy, son of an alcoholic too ill to care for him, who is sent off by social services to some cousins he has never met, to spend one summer in the late 1940's. He meets a cousin close to his own age, who drags him into every kind of trouble imaginable. We experience severe "culture shock" along with the main character, a city boy, who is thrown into a situation far out his depth. He manages to survive a number of harrowing incidents, become pretty comptetent, and later, even looks back fondly on his summer at the farm.

This book was well-written, but did not appeal to me personally as much as Paulsen's other books. It was NOT a page-turner, as his other books are. It is a slow-paced experience of what boys can think up to do for "kicks" when there is no TV, radio, computer, or other type of modern diversion. I have no doubt Paulsen is writing out of personal experience, and really knows what he is talking about. I never would have thought of any of these diversions in a million years. I am a teacher, and I would only recommend this novel to boys and girls who don't mind very slow-paced realistic stories, and who are particularly interested in old-fashioned farm life, or old-fashioned rural life.

If you are not familiar with this author, I highly recommend you read some of his other books, most of which are REAL page turners, generally about boys coming of age, and finding competence in themselves, no matter where the setting.

Summary: Nothin' Like a Big Heap of Country Lovin'
Review: Harris and Me is a funny country tale of two cousins sharing an amazing summer on the farm. By the end of the story, Gary Paulsen has pulled the reader into the story by feeling the emotions of the characters, laughing there laugh, and crying there cry. Harris and the narrator experienced many adventures on the farm, like falling in love(and learning payback is the best),playing Tarzan, burning his business and being attacked by a crazed rooster named Ernie. I would reccomend this book to any reader ages 10 to 13;it was an excellant read and one of my favorites.

Summary: I thought this book was terrific!
Review: I absolutely loved this book. After reading a chapter of the book, it would be all that i could think about. For example, I would be like "oh my gosh, what is going to happen next?" or "that was amazing!" Every time you pick it up to read, you think about what happened last time you read it.Harris and his cousin are always getting in trouble...and Harris always has crazy games to play or weird ideas. All of the characters are great.I think that Gary Paulsen is an excellent writer. He makes you never want to stop reading. He can be funny, sarcastic, or serious. Harris and Me was one of my favorite books.

Summary: Funny, Great Book for ALL Ages!!!
Review: I know this book is recommended for grades 6 and up, therefore giving the impression it is only good for kids. Well, I am a 36 year old 'kid at heart' person that thoroughly enjoyed this book.
I was given this book by a friend that thought I would get a kick out of it, and that is exactly what I did. I laughed out loud many times during the reading of this book.

Basically this book is about an 11-year old boy that is taken to a distant relative's farm for the summer to get away from his drunk parents. The Larsons, consisting of Uncle Knute, Aunt Clair, Glennis, and 9-year old foul-mouthed cousin: HARRIS.

At the Larsons, he finds himself in more trouble than he could ever imagine. That summer leads him to discover what happens to a bike when an old motor from a wringer washer is attached to a rickety bicycle, what happens when pee hits an electric fence, and what love feels like.

This book is filled with mischief and trouble and will send streams of tears down your face from laughing so hard. I, myself, personally enjoyed this book and literally could not put it down. I recommend this book to anyone with the good sense to buy it.

Summary: What Harris' farm life is really like
Review: I recommend the book Harris and me because,it seems to be a very good book the characters seem to be fairly funny like when Harris and the narrator swung from the hay loft and flogged by Ernie then landing in the pig pen. And when Harris and the narrator took the motor off the washing machine and put it on the bike and started the bike by pushing it. Then the bike drove down the driveway going faster and faster theninto a pile of brushripping off Harris's overalls I found that kind of funny.

Summary: The Summer Of Your Life
Review: If you like a book that has fun adventures lots of laughter and exciting stories, than you should read Harris and Me by Gary Paulsen. While you read you can get a great picture of what is going on in the story and get to know the characters. As you read you see the story through the boys eyes, he lets you see what really happened and how he felt, while things were going on at the farm.
Harris and Me is about a 13-year-old boy who was having trouble at his home so he goes to live with his relatives on a farm. When the boy got there, he had no idea what kind of a summer he would be getting himself into. The boy's cousin, Harris, likes doing crazy things. One thing he did was try to land on a horse's back by jumping off the loft. Harris is always getting into trouble, every day. His sister Glennis is always hitting him for doing something wrong. While the boy is there, he learns who he really is. He didn't just find a home, but he also found a friend.
I would rate this book a four because it has detail and exciting things happen to the characters. I wouldn't rate it a five because it does have some boring parts for a little while but after it gets really good. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to have fun while reading a book and laughing aloud.

Summary: The Summer Of Your Life
Review: It started with a giggle at the end of the first five pages and, by the end of Gary Paulsen's first day on the farm with his cousin Harris, I had been thrown out of silent reading for laughing so hard. Don't let me waste anymore of your reading time extolling the virtues of this book--just trust me, it is one hysterical adventure after another. You don't have to like the farm life to relate to the action of this story, you only have to remember what the world was like when you were young and everywhere you went was an adventure just waiting.
As a reading teacher of seventh graders, I have read "Harris and Me" to the most "hardened" of audiences and, without fail, Harris and Gary reduce them to giggling chaos. They even forget to be "cool" and ask for more at the end of the chapter--a true testament to a great book. From grownups to the "think they are grown," this book is a slam dunk...just don't try to read it during silent reading!

Summary: My Child Hood
Review: My Child Hood

Harris and Me by Gary Paulsen is a hilarious book. It's about a boy that is taken away from his parents, because they're drunks and sent to live with his aunt and uncle. There he has many fun and painful adventures with his cousin. They get
paid to catch mice for his uncle but their cat also wants them so they get into fights.
They also decide to pretend to be Tarzan and swing off their barn into a grain bin. The main character walks right in to the back of their milking cow and get kicked and goes unconscious. On a one to ten scale I give this a nine. When this book is over you want to read more.
If you're looking for a funny book this is an excellent book for you. I recommend this book to anybody.

Summary: "A Book To Remember"
Review: The book, HARRIS AND ME, by Gary Paulsen, was a great and enjoyable book. The character, Harris, who is a boy who lives on a farm, is a real character. All the characters were funny and down to earth throughout the whole book. Harris is a fun, adventurous, and silly kid. He gets himself and the narrator plenty of pain. Together the two jump off a loft onto a horse, create a bike with a motor, wrestle pigs for the heck of it, and pee on electrical wires as a bet.
This book also gives a good description of life on the farm. It also gives a good description of what two kids do for fun. The main character never revealed his name, but you could tell how he felt about Harris and his strange family. The narrator, who went to live with his aunt, uncle, and cousins because of his parents' drinking problem is brought to the country and is met with all kinds of adventures.
This is definitely good for kids who like to read a story with action and comedy. This book has two funny characters that will make you not want to put the book down.

Summary: A Fantastic Book
Review: This book deserves at least 10 stars. I confess, it is my favorite book of all time. Read the entire first chapter and I guarantee that you won't be able to put it down. It is hilarious!

This autobiographical novel is about the summer Gary Paulsen spent at his cousin's farm. Harris is a real person! And so is Gary - so he didn't get to choose the ending to this story. Unfortunately, Gary's parents were mean drunks. But, somehow, he survived. And he has given us some of the best survival stories kids will ever read. So, if you're looking for a sequel, pick up one of his other books. Many are based on his life.

I had the honor of meeting Gary a few years ago at an author visit. He read aloud the chapter about his experience with the electric fence. We laughed so hard, tears were streaming down our faces. This story brings back some great memories of my childhood and the wild stunts my brothers pulled when we were growing up on our family farm.
