Rating: Summary: Beautiful pictures- lovely sentiment- Review: This is a great book- it celebrates the complexities of our personality in a way that makes sense to young children. Different animals are used to illustrate different facets of our personality- quick as a cricket, loud as a lion, shy as a shrimp, etc. The illustrations are just gorgeous, and can help children learn about a variety of animals in the natural world, as the animals are not shown in a zoo setting. I appreciate that the child can be seen as either a little girl or a little boy, since there are so many books need to enforce gender roles right from the beginning. This book is truly a gem for the 2-6 range. At least, my 2 yo son loves it, and will imitate the animals!
Rating: Summary: I'm as Quick as a Cricket Review: This lovely book has won the heart of my 2 year old daughter. She requests the "cricket book" perhaps a little too often :-). I do really enjoy reading the quick paced, bouncy rhyming style of Audrey Wood. She is one of my favorite children's authors and with her husband Don Wood, they have created beautifully illustrated pages to go along with it. It is colorful, fun, interesting, and predictable enough so that the toddler can help you finish the sentences and join in the story FUN!
