Rating: Summary: I would give it more than five stars if I could! Review: I didn't read the boxed set, I bought all the books individually when they came out but I am rating the boxed set because I would rather write 1 review than 4.
All together, these books were amazing. In the first-third books we see Harry growing up and finding his voice. He was always strong but now we start to see how strong he actually it. This strength is tested in book 4 with the death of a classmate, and even more so in book 5 with the death of someone close to him. We start to see Harry take an interest in girls, mature in his magic and we actually start to see that the trio's friendship isn't infallible. Granted, their friendship is strong but now we get to experience Ron and Hermione's differing points of view from Harry's. Now they are no longer an individual group, but a group of individuals. These books are extremely well written and a thriller that keeps building to a heart clenching climax. All I can say is hold on to your broom!

Rating: Summary: Wow!!! Review: I love these books! Rowling is an author who follows in the footsteps of the best fantasy authors such as Tolkien and Lewis. These books will be cherished for genarations to come. I cant wait for the last two books! (and hopefully more!)
Rating: Summary: Disappointed with the Limited Edition Set Review: I own all of the Harry Potter hard cover books and thought this set would make a nice little graduation gift for my brother from High School. I spent some time with with him over the summer and he enjoyed reading the first and second books in the series from my library. We both enjoy these books immensly, so nothing to knock on the content of the stories - Five Stars.Disappointed with the packaging of this set is really the best way to describe my experience it. First of all, it is really one set of books made up of one set of books 1-4 and book 5 crammed in for good measure inside of a nice "New Limited Edition Box". The publisher must of had trouble moving the last Limited Edition Box of books 1-4. Then the Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix leather book mark IS NOT LEATHER BUT IT'S COUSIN LEATHERETTE. Yes, Leatherette which is made from that elusive snipe found only in the wild of adult's imagination to torment kids. It is cheap and tacky and I expected something more substantial from this box set. I've seen Harry Potter bookmarks at the bookstore that were extremely pleasant. This is not one of those. That being said, the bottom line is this is a great series of books to own if you are looking for Hard Cover copies of this series but this package is sure to leave you disappointed.
Rating: Summary: You have to read these books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I received this set for Christmas, and was very excited to get my chance to see what the hype was all about. I'd already seen the 3 movies, and was looking forward to actually reading the books.
Truth be told, I wasn't particularly impressed with the first three books. After all, I already new what was going to happen! But, when I started reading Goblet of Fire, it was like getting slapped across the face with a major realization: JK Rowling is an excellent writer. She's very clear and easy to understand. She writes complex plots, but in a way that, in the end, falls together perfectly. The stories are suspenseful and enveloping.
One of Rowling's greatest strengths is her "pseudo-eposodic" style. Often, each chapter can be seen as a self-contained episode, but all the chapters tie together to create an overarching plot. This is more true of the first three books than of the fourth and fifth, but I think it can explain how Rowling can get younger children to read books that are nearly 900 pages long, yet at the same time grip older readers (I'm in my early twenties).
Some in the Christian community are concerned about these books. I can understand the concern. Unlike most fairy tales which clearly take place in a different world than our own, Harry Potter's world runs parallel to our own. This does increase the probability of confusion regarding the reality/fantasy distinction. However, the principles in Harry Potter aren't particularly anti-Christian, by any means. Just take care in making sure the reality/fantasy distinction is clear. To assist in that, I'd suggest not letting a kid under the age of 11 read the books. It's an important age in them, and they might appreciate that importance.
The Harry Potter books are a cultural hit. I believe that, looking back, they will define fantasy literature of our era. I'm glad now that I've partaken in that phenomenon, and I look forward to seeing it out.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: I was glad that I wasn't so into the Harry Potter collection till this collection came out. The fact that it came out right when I started to get hooked was perfect timing.
After reading the first book, craving for more. Because the collection has the first 5, made the wait much easier.(like right now waiting for the 6th book).
I would recommend this collection to anyone that hasn't read any of the Harry Potter books.
Rating: Summary: Hogwarts or Bust! Review: My only beef with the Harry Potter books is that they end! I read the entire first five in a week-and now I'm seriously hooked-they're worse than crack! They're wonderful reading for children, a classic show-down between good and evil. The message of love, friendship, courage and loyalty shines throughout the series. Harry Potter will go down in history as a literary classic-for ALL ages.
Rating: Summary: bonding with my daughter Review: SO we've read them all, together. Who knew that I would be the one who couldn't wait for her to come home from school so we could continue on with our readings. I had to force myself not to skip ahead in this series while she was at school. The books are great. My daughter and I entered a mystical magical world together. As a result we actually started to do all kinds of creative things together. We bought singing lessons Cds- Voice Lessons To Go by Vaccarino which we do a few times a week in the car, we bought Berlitz Spanish Cds- also an activity together in the car, and we are doing an exercise video together. Harry Potter started us on a great journey together. Third book is our favorite. Can't wait for the next one!
