Review: As a children's librarian, I am always looking to get guys "hooked" with a well-written and engaging story of a current sports hero, and this book is an excellent choice. It is appropriate for grades 5 to high school. It's even a quick enjoyable read for adults.
Its narrative style instantly engages the reader by relating the the story of Derek's fascination with the Yankees as a young boy and the personal journey that led to the realization of his dream.
The book also relates information about his family, his personal stats, and other interesting details of his life and career.
I very much look forward to the other sports biographies in this "Baseball's New Wave" series.
