Summary: Sweet comfort
Review: For anyone who's experienced the loss of a beloved cat, this is THE book to get, no matter how old you are -- although it is particularly helpful in comforting children who may not fully understand or know how to express their feelings about such loss. The illustrations are primitively charming and the text is lovingly tender. Equally wonderful is Rylant's "Dog Heaven." She's simply a genius who knows just the right thing to say.

Summary: Beautiful, touching, wonderfully uplifting
Review: I am not a Crazy Cat Lady, but my cat was with me for 15 years through many of life's vicissitudes--both good and bad. She was an amazing snuggler and a real character. When her health declined too severely, it was clear that her time had come to be euthanized. I knew that she was in pain and uncomfortable. Still, it was so hard to say goodbye.

Then a friend sent me this book and I have to say, it made me feel amazingly warm. Even when I was bawling (and there's one part that sets me off every time), it still left me feeling hopeful. It is wonderfully cathartic. And it is perfect for adults as well as children.

Summary: A beautiful gift for the grieving cat owner
Review: I bought this book after loosing my kitty Juliet and it was such a comfort. It is a children's book, but it also comforts the adult heart after the loss of a beloved cat.

I have given this book as a gift countless times to friends who have suffered a loss and also to adults whose children are having a difficult time understanding why their kitty is no longer with them. This is a real comfort when it comes to pet loss.

There is also a version called Dog Heaven that is equally beautiful.

Summary: A Children's Book...
Review: I did not realize that this nice short story about Cat Heaven was intended for children. However, because I lost my cat to cancer just a couple of weeks ago, I read the whole thing and it did make me smile! I will save this book for when the children I know lose a cat friend to help them know that there is a Cat Heaven.

Summary: Wonderful for all ages
Review: I found this book while doing a school project on picture books. I read it for the first time on the day after my mother had to put our 18 year old cat to sleep. It made me smile and think that he as well as our 21 year old cat that we lost a few years ago were playing happily with each other in Heaven. What a great book to use with young children who have lost not just pets but other loved ones.

Summary: Hope and love and tears
Review: I've had several cats since I was a child (I'm 33 now)and have recently acquired another, after several years of being without a feline companion. I didn't want to get another cat because it hurts too much when they die, as they all inevitably do.
I bought this book because it reminds my of all my cat friends that I've lost through the years. It's a sad feeling, but one full of hope. Because of this book I now have hope that my kitties are safe and happy and loved.
Thank you, Cynthia Rylant, for putting into words the love I feel for all my cats.

Summary: Everything you would want for your kitty is in "Cat Heaven"
Review: Thank you Cynthia, for such a sweet, touching, loving book. I have read it many many times - although I have yet to get past the page of kitty coming back and watching her family from outside without getting teary eyed!

I also read this book with my 3 1/2 year old daughter, and it always sparks more wonderful conversation and questions about God and Heaven and angels. She is very pleased that the kitties in Cat Heaven have lots of "little pink fishes" to eat, lots of toys to play with and lots of love!

Your whimsical, wonderful illustrations are refreshing and uplifting, and although the words are simple and few, they speak volumes to anyone who has ever loved and or lost a special cat.

Summary: A great way to help little ones (and adults) grieve
Review: We bought this book when our 19 year old cat Sophie was dying of kidney failure. It was the first time our then-three-year-old son was exposed to death. The book really helped us find a comforting, spiritual but non-religious way of talking about dying. The images of God, angels, and heaven were ones we felt very comfortable with. We still re-read the book 4 years later and talk about Sophie.

Summary: Wonderful for all ages
Review: We lost our cat several weeks ago, and I bought this book to help my young daughter with her feelings of grief. *I* was the one who ended up crying while reading it aloud to her, not because I was sad, but because the words and illustrations are so comforting. My daughter and I talked after reading it, and agreed that now we can picture our beloved kitty doing all of the wonderful things in the book. Cynthia Rylant was already our favorite author (the Mr. Putter and Tabby series is fantastic, as is the better known Henry and Mudge series.) She has captured our feelings once again with Cat Heaven -- it's just perfect.
