Rating: Summary: Happy to be me. Review: An ode to self-acceptance told in simple rhyme. Story tells reader that what matters is deep inside. For example, "No matter if they stop and stare, no person ever anywhere can make me feel that what they see is all there really is to me." Catrow's illustrations are lively and loving. Karen Woodworth-Roman

Rating: Summary: Cute and Colorful! Review: Beaumont, Karen. (2004). I Like Myself! Illus. by David Catrow. San Diego, CA: Harcourt, Inc.
I Like Myself! is one big poem about self-esteem. A little girl uses rhyme to show us that she loves herself for who she is, and nothing anyone would say about her could ever change that.
The illustrations in this delightful little story are very simple, but extremely colorful and cheery. They draw in the reader without being too busy to distract us from the text. The layout of each page is different from the previous, with some text wrapping around pictures, some apart from them, and other text set within pictures. There is a perfect marriage between the poem and pictures that really allows the reader to feel the rhythm of the story in a way that would be difficult to imagine without the aid of these fabulous pictures.
I would definitely recommend this book for young children who are learning that everyone in the world is different, but that is what makes the world great.
Rating: Summary: I Like Myself No Matter What! Review: I read this to my 2nd graders. Of course they loved the silly rhyme. They loved hearing it aloud, but it was nice that it was easy enough for them to read alone. The message is important and easy enough to understand. I LIKE MYSELF!!

Rating: Summary: A great lesson wrapped in a fun book! Review: My 8 year old daughter strives for acceptance as many other children...she has no scars or other outstanding characteristics but lives in a world where grown women compete in The Swan, and beauty is more and more defined as being merely skin deep as evidenced by the increasing number of plastic surgeries performed. This book teaches, in oh, so gentle a manner, that we are all different and beauty comes from within. An engaging read, it teaches without preaching and cleverly lets children know that the first key to success is liking YOURSELF. It doesn't do a bad job at reminding adults of that fact, either.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful, bright pictures with excellent writing! Review: This book really surprised me. It was the least expensive book that I ordered, and the most touching! I love this one page near the end that reads, "no person ever anywhere can make me feel that what they see is all there really is to me." I highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: I like this book Review: With a four year old facing self esteem issues in preschool because of a skin tag and birthmark, this book is a great resource. Hurray for "I like Myself".
