Rating: Summary: Yashasvini's book review Review: I bought this book because I'm very interested in Egyptian history. I loved it. I'm not sure how accurate it is but it is still great. It talks about Cleopatra's life as a princess in a very hard time for her city, Alexandria. It makes you feel what it was like in those times. It accuratly tells of her love for Mark Antony, and the end gives her real family tree . I loved looking at the drawings in the back as well. This book brings out the princess in all young ladies. I would reccomend this book as well as Jahanara: Princess of Princesses to anyone.

Rating: Summary: You Can't Put it Down Review: First, I must advise you: It is probably not wise to buy this book (or read it) if you are not interested in ancient cultures or enjoy historical fiction--not to mention, if you aren't that familiar with ancient Roman and Egyptian cultures because you won't understand a thing.Anyway, I was glad I found this book (my first one of the series) because I am very interested in most of the ancient cultures. The book isn't completely accurate, because well, some of it IS fiction. Even if it isn't totally accurate, it's still fun to read if you don't concentrate on the accuracy. Every page becomes more and more thrilling as young Cleopatra VII writes about her daily life and events, plus her father who is a failure of a pharaoh, her evil sister, and her experience in Rome with Julius Ceasar. I think that the Royal Diaries series is more interesting than the Dear America series. I highly recommend this book and the others.
Rating: Summary: The Crueltys of Ancient times Review: I bought this book from a bookstore because my friend also had it and I wanted a copy. So I picked one up and began reading the book. I was surprised at the cruelty of this folk. Cleopatra's father killed his own sister . Cleopatra's older sister threatened to kill her own sister and father if they set foot in Egypt! boy am I glad that I don't live in ancient times. What makes this book good to read though is the fact that everything isn't goody good. Cleopatra wasn't that much of a saint in her time and in the book if you think about it she wasn't too sympathetic for Berenice. I also liked reading about the cruel ancient romans. The gladiators and the hungry tigers which proved that Romans were smart but one of the evilest people in history. This book is mostly true historically and a girl's emotional feelings about all of it is something worth reading!
Rating: Summary: VERY ENTERTAING Review: I REALLY LIKE THIS STORY BECAUSE IT WAS SO EXITING AND I LIKED THE ROMANTIC PARTS TO ABOUT THE SLAVE NEVA AND THE GARDIUN, POZO. I WOULD RECOMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE FROM 8- 13 YEARS OLD.
Rating: Summary: Cleopatra Review: If you like the other books in the Dear America series, then you should definately read this book. I have read every Royal Diaries book in the series and this is still my favorite. It is about a smart young Egyptian girl named Cleopatra who's third in line to become queen of Egypt. Her oldest sister, Tryphaena, is bad, she plans to kill Cleopatra for her protection when she becomes queen. Her favorite older sister Bernice isn't very wise and ends up getting killed. But Cleopatra is Smart, she carefully tries to avoid Tryphaena. Cleopatra eventually travels to Italy with her unfavored father, King Ptolmey and when they arrive, they recieve something from Tryphaena, a letter saying she has taken over the throne and not to come back, or they will be killed. Will Cleopatra survive?
Rating: Summary: Princess Cleopatra of Egypt Review: Okay, I know I posted this before but it was on my mother's account and I didn't write my name. Just wanted to make sure no one thought that this was plagiarism. Anyway, at the back of this book it has a family tree and it tells what happened to her after this. There are pictures of Egypt and objects used during that time. This was the first book in the series that I have read and I loved it!!! I've read it over and over. It's also my favourite in the series! Thanks to this book, I'm completely obsessed with Egypt! If you haven't read it, READ IT! You'll love it! During her teenage years to womanhood, Cleopatra's life becomes in danger. Cleopatra thinks her older sister Tryphaena is not fit to rule because she is to vain and selfish. She also thinks that her other older sister, Berenice, is not fit to rule because she is too dull and fragile. Actually, her father is not fit to rule either even though she doesn't believe that at first. The king, Ptomely Auletes, which he is called because he plays his flute usually when he gets drunk, which is a lot. Tryphaena despises Cleopatra because Cleopatra is PtolemyXII's favorite daughter. Trypheana wants to be queen so she spreads awful rumors of the king and his favorite daughter, Cleopatra. Why did the king go into hiding? It all started when a deadly snake was let loose in the palace. Fortunately the king wasn't killed but his trusted servant since childhood got bit while trying to strangle the deadly snake. Unfortunately, the servant was killed in the process. The king was really shooken up by this and he called for wine. The cupbearer looked nervous, so the king told him to drink first. Within moments the cupbearer was dead. That was when the king went into hiding. Even before this the Egyptian people despised the king because he taxes them unfairly and now their money is worth a third less in the market place because there is a third less of silver in them. Cleopatra is in danger too. One day she finds disturbing notes and pictures in her horse's stall and even a skull on her favorite island. She is afraid of being poisoned... or worse. Her friend Olympus finds out that her father is leaving on a ship to Rome. Apparently he is going to ask the Romans for troops and money. Cleopatra flees with her father to Rome by being brought in a carpet with her most trusted servant Neva. While on the ship a message came from Trypheana that if they ever return they will be killed! Later on her way over to Rome she got a message that friends of the king strangled Tryphaena to death. Then Cleopatra hears that her beloved sister Berenice has taken to the throne. What the heck! Since she knows Latin along with six other languages, she hears what the Romans say, which is mostly insults, and talks back. She earns their respect, but not everybody's. Cicero is a lawyer and Cleopatra admired him. Well until he becomes her enemy by speaking against her and her father. Oh how she yearns to be home. Will Cleopatra ever return to her beloved Egypt?
Rating: Summary: One of the first and best of the Royal Diaries Review: Pay no head to the reviews giving this book 1 or less than 4 stars! Cleopatra: Daughter of the Nile is one of the best books for Young Adults out there in the Historical Fiction field. Cleopatra is the daughter of Ptolemy Auletes, and is the most intelligent of all his daughters and children. Tryphaeana, the oldest, cares more for power and luxury than anything; Berenice cares for nothing but beauty and jewels; Arsinoe follows in her older sister, Tryphaena's, footsteps, and the two Ptolemy brothers are whiny, powerless, and simply pawns in counselors' hunger for the throne of Egypt. Whule her sisters sit in the palace admiring clothes and perfumes and her brothers stay in the nurseries, Cleopatra spends time in the libraries, talking with philosophers, and learnigng as much as she can about the many duties of a queen-for she wants her father to choose her to success him, for she knows only she out of her many siblings can handle the duties of keeping Egypt safe from Rome and the other empires of the world. However, when her father flees Egypt because of his unpopularity and Tryphaena crowns herself queen, Cleopatra must flee for her life with her faithful servants. After meeting up with her father en route to Rome to get armies to calm down the Egyptian people, Cleopatra takes on the duty to show Rome that Egypt is all powerful and as mighty as Rome. With her Latin, intelligence, military and government tactics, and stubborness, Cleopatra achieves the money and devotion from Rome that Egypt needs, gets her father back on his throne, and reserves the spot on the Egyptian throne that she's fought for for many years. This book was excellent! Well researched, very informational, very alive and real, and with a good use of vocabulary and intelligence, this diary is an excellent contribution to the Royal Diaries Series. With Kristiana's Eleanor: Crown Jewel of Aquitaine and Cleopatra, we can only imagine how wonderful and exciting her last Royal Diaries book, Catherine the Great, will be!
Rating: Summary: Cleopatra daughter of the Nile Review: Perhaps we can start with the boring hardly-developed characters, nonexistent plot, and plain bad writing. I was eager to read about Cleopatra's early life in Egypt, but alas, most of the book took place in Italy! There really was no climax to the story, and the characters I felt were just thrown into the story just so the author could say "Oh look, who showed up." A total waste of time.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS A GOOD READ, DESPITE WHAT Review: Some people may say. I found this book to be very good. Sure, it might not be historically accurate in all areas, but bear in mind that Cleopatra lived more than 2000 years ago. Too much fact in a book meant for young readers would probably bore a person to sleep. I did however, give this book 4 stars intead of 5 because of some missing facts, such as the mention of paper before its time, AND Cleopatra's hanging around a Jewish guy. Correct me if I am wrong, but the Egyptians and Jews did not exactly like each other. Egyptians were also polythestic (worshiped many gods) and Cleopatra would most likely share their beliefs. Otherwise, the book is very well written, the characters on the mark, the Romans just as gross as they should be. The book was a good read to me, as it answered a few questions I had about Cleopatra, as I had never seriously read anything about her. I was quite surprised at the behavior of her sisters, and it seemed to me that Cleopatra did not care much for them herself. Cleopatra's journey to Rome was a good part of the book, where Cleopatra learns about the Romans and meets Marc Antony. A good, recommended read if you have some background knowledge on the subject at first, otherwise you might be lost. Candace
