Summary: My 2 year old's favorite book
Review: I am astounded at the Publisher's Weekly review - way off base. What a sourpuss! My 2 year insists that I read this book to him 3-4 times a night and he still hasn't had enough. We've read it over 100 times and he never tires of it. This is my third child and never before has a book captivated any one of them at this age the way this one has - not even close. I am going to buy it for every new parent I know. The illustrations are well done - with four little animal dolls emulating the child bear and his parent - and my son picks out something new every night we read it. I do think the bears look male, but perhaps it's just that my son and I are male and I want to identify with them. The rhymes are captivating for him, and touching and clever for me. I highly recommend this book. If 2 year olds could write, you would see even better reviews.

Summary: Touching words and lovely illustrations
Review: I bought this book for my daughter's second birthday, and as I stood in the bookstore thumbing through it, I cried. No other children's book, even classics like "Guess How Much I Love You" adequately expresses the loving relationship I have with my children, especially with my daughter, whom I almost lost at birth. "I am your water wings, you are my deep" touched me more than I can adequately convey. I,too, was disappointed with the "Publisher's Weekly" review, as everyone I have shown the book to has had the same reaction: tears of genuine emotion. The illustrations, of course, are just as touching. For the young children who will read this book, or have it read to them, nothing can be more comforting than the solid reassurance of a parent's love. "You are My I Love You" is a perfect gift.

Summary: Wonderful, wonderful book!
Review: I cannot understand how someone could write a review for this book that is negative! It is such a wonderful portrayal of a parent/child relationship. The mother is the carrot sticks, the baby is the chocolate cake...that is the ideal mother/child friendship.

This book rates up there for me with I Love you As Much and Guess How Much I Love You.

Summary: Very disappointed with the Publisher's Weekly review
Review: I found this book by accident when shopping for my 2-week-old daughter (first child). The title described how I feel about her, and upon opening the book to read a few of the pages it just seemed perfect. My favorite part, of course, is the "I am your good night kiss, you are my I love you" but even though some of the other rhymes are a little corny, they are still sweet and clever. I actually like the words better than the illustrations (which are also excellent).

I was extremely surprised and disappointed with the Publisher's Weekly review. I liked this book so much I decided to make it a tradition to purchase and inscribe it for each of our children in the coming years, when we eventually have more. I recommend it to anyone who feels that indescribable depth of love for their child (biological or not)--obviously the author of the review is not a parent!

Summary: beautiful and touching
Review: I recently read this book at home visit with a child I see. Had I been in my own home, I would have been crying. The simple yet beautiful rhymes described perfectly the relationship I have with my wonderful daughter, especially the line that reads "You are my first wish." A publisher's review suggested that this was saccharine and sappy. Nothing could be further from the truth if you don't read this book as a bouncy poem, but rather read it from the perspective of a mother with a young child and all that relationship entails. Mothers should be the 'quiet place,' the 'open arms,' the 'lullaby,' and the 'good night kiss' to their children, and children should be the wild sparks and 'running leaps' that make life feel young and new again. While the rhythmic nature of the verses may have been unappealing to that reviewer, educators and parents know that it is this rhythm that helps young children connect with the text and begin to anticipate what will come next, giving them comfort and confidence and a love of the book. A purely beautiful, delightful book that I'm here to purchase today.

Summary: Don't Believe the Editor's Review!
Review: I've been moved to write my own review so others can read this instead of the surprisingly negative editor's review on this wonderful book. I am a new mother and have a 5 month old daughter. As I stood in the book store flipping through each page, I could not hold back some little tears. Yes, some of the rymn does not work 'perfectly', but it doesn't matter. The pictures are wonderful, and it sums up some very deep emotions with very simple words. I now know what other mothers meant when they used to tell me, 'You just can't describe the love you feel for your child...there is nothing else in the world like it..' Now I know. I bought this book so I can read it to my baby now and for the rest of her life! A little dramatic, I know, but this book deserves a better review. Enjoy this book with your little one too.

Summary: You Are My I Love You
Review: My mother gave this book to me and my children. What a wonderful gift! It brings grins to my children's faces and tears to my eyes each time I read it to them. It puts the simple truth about being a parent into simple poetry. Words that children can understand and parents can feel. To really "get" this book, you must have children of your own. I am making the assumption that the editorial reviewer was not a parent. If you are a parent, you must have this book in your personal library for when you want to read something to your child that reminds both of you about the simple pleasures of a parent-child relationship.

Summary: A Joy to Read
Review: This book is just lovely. (That Publisher's Weekly reviewer must not have any children....) The illustrations are luminuous; the text is simple, pure, and wholly moving. I've owned this book for a month now, and still can't get through it without tears in my eyes. It perfectly captures the depth of emotion parents have for their children; how children bring joy and the unexpected to their parents' lives, and how parents impart patience, understanding, and most of all, love, to their little ones. This book is as much parents as it is for children -- it crystallizes all that parenting is, and all that our children bring to our lives. Simply wonderful.
