Rating: Summary: Great Book -The Whipping Boy by Akshay Belur Review: Join Jemmy and Prince Brat in their exciting adventure out of the kingdom and into the world. This great book contains awesome action about the prince and Jemmy getting kidnapped for ransom and how they try to escape. During their adventure they meet many people who are smart and helpful. The Whipping Boy is also fun because the tricks they play on the villains will make you laugh. The setting is in a world a long time ago. If you want to read a great book in about a night read this book. Prince Horace is called Prince Brat because he is very mischievous. So the king calls Jemmy, an orphan boy, to get whipped instead of the prince because no one is allowed to whip the prince. The prince gets bored in the castle and decides to run away and brings Jemmy with him. They meet up with Hold-Your-Nose Billy and Cutwater, who are thieves. These bad guys kidnap the prince and Jemmy and they think Jemmy is the prince because the real prince cannot write. That helps the prince and Jemmy escape. Then they meet Petunia, a dancing bear tamer and Captain Nips a salesman. Read the book to see if get back to the palace. I think this story was good because it is pretty hilarious. For example the bad guys almost got eaten by rats. I also liked it because it was not a story with sorrow or unhappiness but it is an exciting adventure. This book has no violence. Another reason I like it is that it is set in the Medieval Age. I would recommend this book for ages seven and up. Review by Akshay Belur
Rating: Summary: Whipping boy Review: Sid Fleischman's book, "The Whipping Boy" is about a king who will not punish his son so he has another child who gets whipped and punished instead of the prince. The prince deiced one day that he could not take getting in trouble and having the whipping boy get punished for his wrong doings. One night the prince deiced to run away with the whipping boy. On there journey they get captured by "Hold-Your-Nose-Billy," and Cutwater. The criminals deiced that they are going to keep them hostage. Jemmy did not like the prince to much because he had to take all of the punishment for all of those bad things that he did. Since they both got captured they had to become friends with each other, even though jimmy was from the lower class of people and the prince was from the upper class of people they had to get along. The whipping boy thinks of a plan, his plan is to escape to the sewers. The prince on the other hand does not think that it would be a good idea because he has never been in the sewers. The whipping boy has been in the sewers his life before becoming a whipping boy. Jemmy used to trap and sell rats that were in the sewer that does how he now all of the turns and different things. The prince and the whipping boy are trying to get along, become friends, and break though the barriers that are between them. The prince is finding out how Jemmy used to live, also the prince is coming immune to Jemmys life. The prince and the whipping boy are starting to take responsibility for there own actions. The prince does not like how Jemmy used to live. They find interest in each other. The prince is getting used to how Jemmy had to live. They finally deiced that they have had enough of the kidnapper. Jemmy told the prince to follow me and they went though the tunnels. They finally get away though the tunnel because of how well Jemmy knew the tunnels. The prince did not want to go though the tunnels because he did not think that Jemmy did not know them until Jemmy showed him that he could get through them. I thought that is was a very good idea for the prince and "The Whipping Boy" finally deiced to run away. I would have not liked being the whipping boy. I liked this book very much and I really do not like to read. I thought that it was easy for younger kids to understand to. I really liked this book.
Rating: Summary: A good book with a great lesson! Review: The Newbery award-winning book, The Whipping Boy, is an adventurous book about two young boys, a Prince and his whipping boy, running away. They run into all types of adventures that complicate but also add excitement to their voyage. Once they are caught by two criminals named Hold-Your-Nose- Billy and Cutwater and then escape, the two boys are chased for the rest of the book. They have many different friends that help them escape many close calls with the two criminals. The Prince, who is known to all as "Prince Brat," was mean and mischevious at first, but by the time the journey was over, he realized that being kind and having friends is more fullfuling than being mean and having everyone dislike him. Jemmy does little changing throughout the book. Although at times he tries to ignore his conscience, he remains helpful and openminded towards Prince Brat. Both the prince and Jemmy eventually realize that they can get along, and they become great friends. The Whipping Boy is a great novel that teaches a good lesson. The prince and the whipping boy eventually begin to trust each other and become good friends, allowing this story to have a happy ending. It's a wonderful book that I would recommend to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Tale of Friendship Review: The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman is a wonderful book which certainly deserved its Newbery Medal in 1987. The Whipping Boy is an adventure story. Its is set around the 1700's. The main characters are Jemmy, the royal whipping boy who is very street-wise, and Prince Brat, the spoiled heir to the throne. It starts when Prince Brat runs away from home, and Jemmy (even hating him) goes along. The two do not have very much in common. Jemmy is intelligent, has common sense, and has no breaks. Prince Brat is ignorant, is spoiled, and is heir to the kingdom. The two do have their adventures in common, though. They face enemies like the hilarious Hold-Your-Nose Billy and Cutwater, and they have to overcome personal short-comings. Through their experiences, the two learn a few things about themselves and their own characters, and they learn a lot about friendship. The Whipping Boy is a fabulous adventure which is worth reading. There is also a little bit within the story very much worth reading. The Whipping Boy is a great read for children and adults, and it will go down as a classic.
Rating: Summary: A book about enimies becoming friends. Review: This book took place in time when there were kings and queens. Prince Horace, known to the peasants of the city as "Prince Brat",was a stubborn little boy who always wanted attention. It was usually bad attention, but he did not realized it until the ending of the story. His whipping boy, Jemmy, really hated Prince Brat. One night, Prince Brat made Jemmy run away from home with him, but they soon got caught by two cutthroats. This book tells how the two boys escape from the cutthroats and turn into best of friends, unlike that in the beginning of the story. The boys teach each other different things from both of their unique lifestyles. This book is written by Sid Fleischman, and I would recommend it to anyone in the 3rd to 5th grades, because it is a very easy book to read and understand.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME BBOK MOST READ IT ! Review: This story is about a prince who is bored out of his mind and thinks he should run away from home. This is book is good for people who like funny and short books in grades 4 and up. Some of the main characters are Hold Your Nose Billy, Jemmy, Prince Brat, Petunia, Captain Nips. Hold Your Nose Billy and Capiton Nips are really mean people who like garlic. They kidnapp Prince Brat and Jemmy. Prince Brat is a boy who you think has a perfect life but he does not think so. He thinks he has a boring life. Petunia is a bear who saves Jemmy and Prince Brats lives. The main part of the story begins when Prince Brat and Jemmy run away from home and get kidnapped. It is set in a forest and in a palace in an imaginary time long ago. I think the theme is never run away. Just stay home with your family. Sometimes you don't realize how good you have it. Also, learning to read is very important.
