Summary: Another Winner From Boynton
Review: Another Winner from Boynton

Sandra Boynton writes great kids' books (no mean feat when you see some of what's out there). This is another example of her wonderful writing and illustration. Her pictures have a unique style, warm and familiar and interesting, and she writes with attention to rhythm and a sense of humor. She has written several other excellent books, one such favorite is "The Going to Bed Book," also available from Amazon.

Summary: Great - as usual
Review: Anyone who has purchased Sandra Boynton knows that her books are always a hit with kids and parents. The text and illustrations are captivating and entertaining, as always. She is a favorite in our house and her books provide a great way to introduce early word recognition to your toddler or pre-schooler. "But, Not" lives up to all our expectations

Summary: This book is a parent's dream come true!
Review: Boynton is the new Dr. Seuss! The bright colors keep my son spellbound. The story keeps us both laughing. Finally, a book that I don't mind reading over and over and ...

Summary: the best, best book for toddlers
Review: Hi, my name is Jared and I am four. My sisters and I love Sandra Boynton and But Not The Hippopotamus is our favorite. We could read the book to mom when we were two. We even showed it to our cousins and they loved it too. *jared

Summary: I never get tired of reading this to my son
Review: I can read this book over and over to my two year-old son. The rhythm is pleasing, the story is humorous, and the illustrations are, of course, absolutely adorable.

This one is going on my list of books to give new parents. I guarantee that this book will become a family favorite years after my little boy is "too young" for the book.

Summary: He loves it!
Review: I just bought this book for my 19 month old and he just loves it. I keep it on the coffee table and he keeps bringing it to me to read to him over and over. We make a little song of it because it rhymes and flows so well. He just giggles and points at all the characters. Excellent book. It's a fun read for both of us. He "meows" when he sees the cat in the book. It's adorable.

Summary: But Yes, the Hippopotamus!
Review: I love reading this book to my 9 month old. I've been reading it to her since she was 3 months old. She loves the colorful pages and I love the rhymes. I look forward to the day that she reads it to me!

Summary: It's cute...but not up to the Boynton standard.
Review: I love the Boynton books, but I must say, this is my least favorite. Cute rhymes, but I am just not as big a fan of this one.

Summary: Almost bought this for myself before I even had children!
Review: I used to love reading this book to my niece. Six years later when I became pregnant this was the first item I bought! I brought it home and couldn't wait to read it to someone so I read to my husband! He was equally thrilled with it. I started reading it to my daughter from day one. By 4 months she would start crying if I stopped reading it so I often had to read it to her several times and then distract her. A year later she still loves this book. She can be crying, in a bad mood or completely falling apart but if I start reading it to her she immediately perks up. In fact today we were in the car and she started getting antsy. I just started reciting the book (I memorized all the words long ago)and she calmed down. She now is at the age where she sits down with the books and looks through them herself, pretending to "read" them. We have many of the Sandra Boynton books and she loves all of them. Another thing you need to think about as a parent is how do YOU like the storyline? That is a very important factor. Think about it. You could be reading these books, possibly DAILY, for the next 2 years or more. Better make sure it's a book you can stomach for that long. These books are easy to read, with cute characters and are just the right length. I would rather spend a lot of money on endless books such as this, which provide educational value, one-on-one interaction and entertainment than spend a lot more money on numerous electronic toys that she will quickly outgrow. The best gift you can give your child is to take the time to read to him/her. These books make it not only possible, but enjoyable. I highly recommend these books.

Summary: Her top favorite
Review: My 3 year old thinks this is by far the most hilarious book ever written. Next to Red Hat, Blue Hat it is her favorite Boynton book. We sing the line "But not the hippopotamus" in an opera voice and that seems to do the trick for making it fun!
