Summary: The Best Book That Will Last Into The Next 1000 years
Review: I have read only four of Shel's books and must say that beyond a shadow of a dout this is the best book he has writen in years. The poems are funny and entertaining, the characters are witty and funny with an amusing display of personality and realizm. Shel has mastered the art of children's poems and it shows in the book, the only book that can be called an award winning masterpeice.

Summary: Great Book For All Ages
Review: I have read this book so many times I can't even count, and it never seems to get old. This book is full of great poems written by a great poet. I have read every one of his books and they all are wonderful. I recommend this book to anyone at any age who enjoys a poetry.

Summary: Fallling Up
Review: I just gave this book to my daughter for her graduation from kindergarten and she absolutely loves it. She has not put it down since she received it. It was her first book on poetry, and she loves the child oriented subjects and text. Her favorite so far is "Furniture Bash", but the more she reads, a new favorite comes out. She takes the book everywhere and reads the poems to whomever will listen, (even her stuffed animals...) Wonderful book, I highly recommend it! We love this book too. I know it will be a favorite for years to come.

Summary: absolutely brilliant - great for the kids too!
Review: I just loved this book...so much that I couldn't put it down....the poems and drawings are highly entertaining!

I'm so glad I ventured into the Childrens Section in the library to discover this gem!!!

Silverstein captures the uniqueness in those things we generally consider normal!

Summary: Best of his 3 collections
Review: I purchased Falling Up on a whim, not sure if my 4 year old daughter would like it since much of the humor is derived from plays on words or double meanings. However, she absolutely loved it. Falling Up is a regular request at bedtime - one that I actually don't dread reading for the 100th time. She's even memorized a couple of the shorter poems on her own.

I can't say enough about this book. The first time I read it, I had histerical fits - some of the poems/drawings are just so cleverly ridiculous!

The "Horn Book" review above is way off base. I found Silverstein's previous collections less clever, less consistant in meter, and actually more bizzare. After going back and reading his earlier works, I assumed he'd settled down a bit in his old age. I think the reviewer (if they even read the whole book) was comparing their experience with their memory of encountering his earlier works for the first time.

I think Silverstein's poems are so unexpected that the first book you read becomes your favorite, and all others fail to measure up. A family friend swore we would like "Where the Sidewalk Ends" better, and my mother felt the same about "A Light in the Attic". WRONG - after a week or so of each, we were ready to trade back and read some more "Falling Up".

"Falling Up" is definitely our family's favorite, so if you get only one of the three collections, I recommend you make it this one.

Summary: Hilariously Funny!
Review: I'm not generlly crazy about poems, the way they all rhyme and stuff. However, Shels poems are just the best, he has a secert touch to the way he writes. At first, things seem as normal as in your every day life. Then he is able to turn the situation around to make it hilarious. This book is great for all ages my whole family loved it and I have all 3 of his books of poems. READ THIS BOOK IT WAS SO GREAT!

Summary: For small and big kids.
Review: It opens a gate in your heart and leads you to a place where you belong.

Shel speaks to little kids with pure innocence and perfect children insights whereas big kids like you and me can find our long lost dreams and enjoy the sense of humor the author delivers.

His words are like lyrics for life.
His drawings are full of imaginations.
It's a lovely combination that touches your heart and heal your souls.

All in all, it's a refreshing stream running across urban city and modern life.

I believe every time after reading it, you'll want to embrace the book and give a kiss on its cover like I do.
