Summary: Best book ever.
Review: As an adult I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that my favorite book ever, is this book. As a kid, my brother and I use to fight over who would get to view and use this book. I have both the recently published and my original one that my mom bought us back in the 60s. I've viewed the new edition, and even though I haven't compared "page to page" it still gives me a great laugh, humor that Scarry put in that only adults would see, like the Pigs that are cutting the roast beef for "Meal Time." Hey, where's the Ham! A definite must for every eclectic library.

Summary: A must for all parents of little ones (and a little bigger?)
Review: Even though my two children have supposedly outgrown this book, I've saved it simply because it is still so much fun to look at. I've used it as an educational book to help them learn words when they were tiny, but we had an even better time searching for the gold bug on every page and playing I Spy with the wonderful menagerie melange. This book is one to keep!

Summary: Another fun time for my toddler from Richard Scarry
Review: I bought this book after my son fell in love with "Cars and Trucks and Things that Go". He loved it but not as much. A few of the pages here that just teach words and don't show a detailed landscape scene aren't as interesting to my 21 month old. But still, he's learning words and shapes and colors here. We've got spiders and police cars down, thanks to Richard Scarry. I can see this one being a book my son will enjoy for a while as he starts to learn his alphabet and to count. My son enjoyed this one enough to motivate me to start collecting all the R.S. books for him. This book is hardcover with paper pages. Watch out because little hands can rip those pages quickly.

Summary: This is one for GENERATIONS to come...
Review: I came across this book on..., and I remember being read Richard Scarry books (especially this one) when I was a child. Now, I'm having a little girl of my own, and I'm buying this book tonight. Find out what all the other reviewers are talking about, and buy a copy for your child too.

Summary: I was a little disappointed...
Review: I had the book when I was little (we called it Big Book). When I bought it for my son recently, I had the feeling that I remembered pages that weren't there: birds, flowers, buildings. I hunted up my old copy and sure enough, there were quite a few pages missing in the newer book. But nowhere in Joey's book does it say it's a revised edition! What's in the book is great, but I can't get rid of the feeling that we got gypped!

Another problem with the book is that it's not bound very well. All our Richard Scarry books seem to fall apart at the spine in very short order. It's true we read them constantly, but we read other books as often, and they don't fall apart as quickly.

Summary: The Best Childhood Book
Review: I just can't recommend this book highly enough. It has page after page of interesting scenes, animals, objects, vehicles and more to look at and talk about with your child.
There are many opportunities for teaching words. I name objects for my daughter and she also points to objects that I name for her. She has learned many new words from this book.
It is truly a must have for parents!!!

Summary: Forever a classic!
Review: I loved this this book so much as a child, that I have kept it though adulthood! Thirty years later, the binding on mine is shot from so much reading, learning and loving that I had to buy a new one for my little boy. This is a classic learning book that will never go out of style...it has something for every little one, something that will capture their interest. Not much about it has changed since I was young, too, except for a bit more politcal correctness...Richard Scarry has girls driving trucks and operating heavy macinery now! What a delight to discover it all over again with my kids!

Summary: Don't miss it!
Review: I owned many Richard Scarry books as a ltitle girl, so I was thrilled when we received several as a gift for my daughter. I introduced this book to her at about 12 months of age, and much to my surprise she immediately became obsessed with the book, the alphabet page in particular. I was so surpised by this, as she normally only has the attention span for interactive/lift-the-flap books, but her attention span regarding this book is a testament to how fabulous it is! In the last 2 months, she has come to like all of the pages, and it is a book she brings me everyday to read to her, turning around and plopping herself down in my lap for a good long read! I myself remember the cozy illustrations, especially the pages of little things and food. The book is loaded with words, opportunities for elaborating and describing in great detail, and in my opinion I think the title suits it well: it is the best word book ever! Don't miss out on this book, especially if you are looking for something to hold your child's attention for longer than 5 minutes!

Summary: The Best Childhood Book
Review: I remember this book as a favorite during childhood...over 30 years ago. Is the best for starting a infant on learning vocabulary. The pictures are wonderful and will grab any child's imagination.
