Rating: Summary: A Beautiful Story Review: I read this story to my 5 year old daughter and 6 year old son and they fell in love with the story. The story touched both of them in a magical way. I overheard my daughter telling her aunt the next weekend all about the "wooden people" and how they where special. She also told her aunt that she believed she was special too. It is a great book for all families.
Rating: Summary: true Review: I went to my church's youth camp with other fourteen year old girls and one of my counselors brought the book and she read it out loud to us. Outside under a large open tent with real civilization so far away that I could just review my life and the times I've been the dotted puppet and the times I've let the stars go to my head. It brought me and many others to tears. That night was one of those experiences you never forget. I'm really excited about buying this book. It's so relevant to how we live that I intend to keep it forever.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: Awesome. Any book that can provoke the thoughts of folks from 4 to 34 is special. This is a book that my children not only found delightful, but it is helping them come to terms with being themselves and understanding what really matters in the world, and who's opinion is the only one that matters.
Rating: Summary: Touching the heart Review: Frankly, I thought this would be a terrible play on the otherfamous puppet story, Pinochio. The charecters names are similar. Thepremise of the story is too, however Max Lucado does a good job finding an authentic meaning to his story with much deeper implications. As he usually does, Lucado takes you through a true narrators vision of Gods love towards his children, young and old. And the story is meaningful to both young and old as well. It holds timeless meaning for your child, should you teach them this story and what it means, but it is also a book to keep for years to come on the coffee table for visitors to see and, hopefully, read. And just maybe, touch their heart in a life illuminating way. The truth of Gods love for us usually does. I gave it four stars only because I did question the authors construction of the ending, but by far it is still a great and simple book.
Rating: Summary: Not just for children! Review: I am an executive in a large corporation. I was given this book as a gift - and now give it to all my friends and employees as they journey through their careers. It has such a tremendous message of keeping your priorities straight. I am deeply moved to examine what is important to me every time I read this story to my son. What an tremendous thought provoker for a child or an adult who worries about what others think (which is all of us)!
Rating: Summary: God is love Review: This book does a tremendous job of showing us how much God, our Creator, loves us. We as humans constantly are judging each other and feeling as if we are being judged. It is great to know that God loves us no matter how others see us.
Rating: Summary: BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN Review: This book is absolutely wonderful! It expresses to us just how much God loves us, regardless of what people in the world may think. Wonderful confirmation for one who is already a believer, and a very non-confrontational (yet obviously an illustration of God's love) and gentle way to help open the hearts of those who may not yet be. This book will tenderly remind you of the unconditional love poured out to us by our Heavenly Father.
Rating: Summary: Because even children who are violent are Special to God! Review: While teaching in a lower grade level class, I had a student pull a knife and threaten the rest of the class. He was sent to on campus suspension. I had no way of communicating to him that he was still special, to myself or him. This book was in a book order. I grabbed it just to have something to read to him during my break one day. He fell in love with it! He wanted me to read it to him every day. We both began to see each other in a different light. God loves us more than we can possibly fathom. This book helped this boy to know that he was lovable too. Thank you Mr. Lucado. Thank you God for loving us.
Rating: Summary: What A Warm and Wonderful Story! Review: I read this book last night (at the prompting of a friend who had bought it for her daughter last year) and I was very touched! What a wonderful way to tell children and adults that each and everyone of them is very special - no matter what others say about them - because in God's eyes everyone is perfect!
Rating: Summary: This book breathes magic from every page Review: My six year old son loves me to read him this book, and I love reading it to him. It is luminous with meaning and love. If this is what the Christian message is all about, then no wonder it's lasted 2000 years.
