Summary: Stunning, Life changing, Powerful
Review: I was amid a life crisis and my six year old son pulled this book off the shelf for me to read. It has changed me forever. I recomend this book to anyone of any age and of any faith. It is designed for children but carries such a simple and powerful message, that even I got it!

Summary: An important read for Everyone
Review: Although this book is religeous in tone - and not subtly so, the lesson is a powerful one I have shared with my friends who are not religeous. It has been loved and embraced by all I have shared it with! With children's books today being centered around goofy graphics and rediculous, substanceless characters and plot lines (usually and offshoot of the latest cartoon character), this book is a welcome change. Max Lucado brings the concept of positive and negative comments into an easily understood concept of stickers - stars are good, and dots are bad. He gently points out that although you can't escape the stars and dots habits of the world around us, you can begin to realize that it doesn't matter what people say about you or "stick on you" - You are special, you are loved, you are a unique and wonderful individual simply because you're you.

I recommend this for all people, whether they have families or not, because it's a simple, fun tale, written in an engaging style with beautiful illustrations that conveys a concept that is important to all of us.

Summary: You Are Special
Review: You Are Special is a very special book. It helps children to adults learn to deal with hurtful words and actions. It will help you realize that you are special just the way you were created. Because, God doesn't make mistakes.

Summary: Heavy handed? I don't think so...
Review: Maybe I'm not as bright as one of the reviewers below, but I felt this story did a great job of surprising me from page to page. I guess I knew what the moral of the story was, but it was so touching and thought provoking. It really made me think about how cruel people can be to each other sometimes and how easy it is to get hung up about that. We all want to get "stars" from people and avoid getting "dots," don't we? How wonderful to be reminded that there's a way to remove all the judgments people put on us simply by spending some time with the one who made all of us.

I don't think that's a heavy hand you felt, I think it was a big warm hug! :-)

Summary: The Moralistic Message
Review: The moralistic message in this book is not only good for children but for adults as well.

This book has a spirtual depth and message.

Our focus should be on pleasing GOD not on pleasing man. We will be at peace and satisfied if we seek to please GOD, because GOD loves us. It is impossible to please man.

I read this book to my two year old almost daily. Each time I am reminded of the One who Loves me most. And my son really enjoys the story.

Great book!!

Summary: A Godsend in NICU
Review: I found this book right after my beautiful son was born and I had just been told he has Down syndrome. He spent two weeks in NICU. It was very hard to read to him then and I still get choked up reading it. The nurses in NICU thought it was just perfect. I acknowledge it is "deep" and perhaps more meaningful to someone who has a child with special needs that makes him "different". I highly recommend this book - it would be a wonderful gift for a family who is finding their way through those initial dark days. An excellent book for parents and children alike.

Summary: Heavy-handed
Review: I love children's books and when I saw the illustrations in this one, I was excited about it. And then I read it. I found it to be one of those books that was written with the moral in mind and the story awkwardly crafted around that. Such heavy-handed treatment! I see that I'm in the minority here, but after reading it a few times, my opinion is only confirmed. Children love stories. Period. Not stories told for the sole purpose of delivering a moralistic message. Nothing wrong with the message in this book, but my goodness! Nothing light in the delivery, nothing original in the story-telling. Every word thuds. Children--and adults--are much smarter than this author believes.

Summary: Everyone Should Own This Book
Review: Although this book has the look of a children's book, it is really an everyone's book. It has a universal message that applies to all ages, and types of people. It reminds us all that despite our differences, and the fact that we are sometimes dissatisfied with ourselves, we are all special and important. It is an excellent gift for someone who is feeling a little down, or someone you want to express your feelings for. It really makes the recipient feel that they are special.
