Rating: Summary: Fantastic for autistic kids! Review: My son is 3 1/2 years old and is autistic. He absolutely loves this book. His therapist brought it to our house. We would love to buy a copy of our own and I am very saddened to see that it is no longer in print. We use it to teach him the names of things and we also use it to teach him how to follow directions. It's such a great book. Please reprint it! We would be so grateful.
Rating: Summary: Enthusiasm from a 17 month old Review: My son picked this book out from the library on his own. It
has been a constant selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner reading ever since. It is a bright attention getter and can hold a little ones focus while they learn the hand motions and how to sing.
Rating: Summary: One to replace over and over and to cherish when their grown Review: Our 14 month old daughter got this book for her first birthday and has not let go of it since. We have placed it on a shelf with our books and she can pick it out of a crowd. It's tattered with her affection, so I'm replacing it today. I am sure I'll order it again someday as she never tires of the beautiful images and interactivity. Someday, after she leaves for college I'll find that book on our shelf and read it aloud to myself and remember her tiny hands, and her warm smile. All childrens books should be like this one
Rating: Summary: a great pop-up and lift-the-flap version of a classic song Review: Our two-year-old loves this book. It is colorful, interactive and fun fun fun. It is one of those gems among children's books that is actually bearable the 500th time you read (or sing) it. The artistry is exceptional -- clever manipulatives and delightful illustrations help bring this classic song to life. You will open the doors, swish the windshield wipers, ssshh the babies, and yes, you will make the wheels go round. Manipulatives are generally lift-the-flap or tab.The material is not very thick, so we also save this book for use with an adult. We have had to tape the wheels back on though, and have lost functionality on one or two pop-ups. Nevertheless, this is a delightful book that will bring smiles to your child -- and not drive *you* crazy!
Rating: Summary: This book is wonderful, full of life and entertainment! Review: Please, Please, Please, Please get some more in stock, I need to give some as gifts!!
Rating: Summary: amazing drawings - not just for kids Review: the song everyone knows (and doesn't necessarily love due to constant toddler repetition) takes on new life here. i've heard this song way to many times to like it much anymore, but the illustration in this book make it actually fun again. Little levers move the people around ("up and down") the windshield wipers move ("swish swish swish"), and all the rest in lively representation. The expressions on the people's faces and the well-placed moving parts on each page light up my son's eyes.
Rating: Summary: This book has ruined my home life Review: The Wheels on the Bus is my one-year-old's favorite song. It has been our companion on long car trips, and it has forced me into greater and greater physical contortions in trying to act it out. When I saw this fabulous book, it seemed to be the answer to my prayers. Let the book do the work! Look! The doors actually open and close, and the people on the bus can go bumpety-bump without me jumping up and down. My son seemed to agree. He adores the book. The only thing is that if he gets it into his hands by himself, he tends to rip it apart. The wheels on the bus have been glued back on several times. So, we put it on a high shelf away from the other books, only to be read with an adult. But my son can't pass the shelf withoug pointing and going "Ungf, ungf." Now, I'm a slave to the Wheels on the Bus. I'm forced to read it day and night. Thank goodness it's such a wittily illustrated book. Now, if they'd only make it in a board book version..
Rating: Summary: the wheels on the busTHE WHEELS ON THE BUSTHE WHEELS ON THE Review: THE WHEELS ON THE BUS I chose the book, The Wheels On The Bus, by Paulo Zelinsky, because it has bright colors, illustrations and activities. It is a book that is very easy to read because you already know the song. The Wheels On The Bus, published by Dutton Children's Books, New York, is a book that children of the age s 2-5 would want to read every day. The most important reason I chose this book is, that I can read this book to my son, all the times he would wan, knowing it is an educational book for him.
Rating: Summary: It's been a family favorite, and a very durable Pop-Up ! Review: This "pop-up" is in a class by itself! But, it's probably more precise to call it, "A Book With Parts That Move", as the cover says. Maybe it doesn't really matter what you call it, as long as you call it "fun". Its great graphics and moving parts really attract children's interest and participation, and gives them a chance to practice manipulation skills. And, of course, it leads you through the great "Wheels on the Bus" song. It's our 9-month-old daughter's current favorite. She either responds instantly to an invitation to read it, or implores us to read it. She'll even sometimes crawl to it, open it up herself and go through the pages, pulling and spinning things as she goes through. She especially loves to spin the movable wheels (and to pull at them). The movable heads of the bus-driver, and of some of the riders, are irresistible too, as are the movable windshield wipers on the bus. She gets a kick out of all of the movable parts. As we read it together, she is starting to pull the tabs to get the parts to move. But, I think that you can count on a lot of good-natured, determined, tugging at the movable parts. So, it's good that it's a really durable book. We have the version by Paul O. Zelinsky, with paper engineering by Rodger Smith, published by Dutton Children's Books, and it's one tough book! Our book is about 3 years old now, because we originally bought it for our first daughter. We used it heavily throughout her first 2 years, so ours has had it's share of taping to repair tears that young eager hands occasionally managed to make. As a credit to the book's quality, the repairs have allowed it to continue on in good working order. As I've repaired it, I've noticed some of the details in the design and construction of this book, and I've come to admire its quality. I think it must have been a labor of love for those who contributed to it. If you buy one "pop-up" for your children, or as a gift, this is the one I would recommend.
Rating: Summary: The Wheels on the Bus (Pop Up Book) Review: This book is now a firm favorite in my toddler's library - although the book is recommended for over 4's, I have found that the pop up mechanism's really withstand little fingers! (My son is 2 and a half.) We've read our copy several times a day for months now and it is still (nearly) looking as good as new! It's quite amazing as he has managed to shred most of his other pop up books. The illustrations are beautiful and the 'story' true to the original song. A MUST for all parents with interactive little ones - so much more fun than a video game!! I'll definately be looking out for other Paul O. Zelmsky illustrated books.
