Summary: Excellent book for 3rd -4th graders!
Review: I use this book in my 4th grade class while learning about the Revolutionary War. The students are crazy about it. There is a lot of adventure and "edge of your seat" suspense. It is also historically factual. A great historical fiction novel.

Summary: CAUTION PARENTS!
Review: I was looking forward to sharing this book with my kids (6-9). However, I was horrified to discover that on page 13, the kids (who are spending the night in a back yard tent) decide to sneak out and go on a night hike along a local lake. There is a discussion among the kids as to whether they should ask their parents' permission. They decide not to ask; the more responsible kids buckle under peer pressure such as: "Since none of our parents said anything about a hike, we don't know whether they would mind or not," and, "Your parents have gone to sleep and they'll never have to know about it" (both quotations from page 14).

I don't care how cleverly American history is presented in this book. These days it is extremely irresponsible to begin a book with an example of kids doing something so foolish and dangerous --- and with positive, exciting consequences, too --- oh, brother.

Summary: Double Pleasure
Review: My ten year old twins and I read this book together. As different as my boys are in personality, they were in complete agreement on this one. They loved the story! They were on the edge of their seats at the end of each chapter.I even learned some things about the Revolutionary War that I didn't know! We're going to look for other books on Washington now that our interest is so stirred..

Summary: This book should be made into a movie for children.
Review: This book was read to 3rd and 4th graders. It made learning about the Revolutionary War much more interesting. After listening, they could relatate historical facts while learning them. There should be more children's books like this one. I. Han
