Summary: befriending the unseen
Review: 2 Corinthians 4:18 says: "we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal."

While Dr. Seuss is not addressing the same thing that Paul is talking about to the Corinthians, "There's a Wocket in my Pocket" is, without a doubt, about the wonder and fear inherent in the unseen...even if the kid in the book claims to have seen and talked with these friends of his.

"Wocket" is fun little book of rhymes. Its about a kid who imagines strange creatures lurking in the dark corners and behind the objects in his house.

The story begins with the Zamp in the Lamp and builds to the crescendo of the Tellar, Nellar, Gellar, Dellar, Bellar, Wellar, and Zellar in the cellar. The book ends nicely (especially for the purpose of getting one's kids to sleep) with a Zillow on a pillow.

I'm a big fan of Seuss. This book, while not being one of his truly great "MASTERPIECE" masterpieces (my favorite being The Sleep Book), is still one of those typically Seussian mere masterpieces--remarkably fun and entertaining--especially great for the youngest of readers.

I must also take a moment here to once more praise the near indestructibility of board books...even my kids can't destroy them.

All in all "There's a Wocket in my Pocket!" merits a hearty recommendation.

Summary: The friendly "unseen" friends
Review: A really silly book (what's new with Suess's series). If your children are driving you nuts with some spooky imaginary creatures, get this book. The book might help tame their fear with the silly and funny creatures.

Summary: Fun!
Review: Another great Dr. Seuss book. The silly rhymes and interesting pictures keep the little one's attention. And as many times a day that we have to repeat the same books, it's nice to have one that isn't boring. We can recite a few lines from the book while changing diapers and it catches the childs attention long enough to finish. Dr. Seuss is always a good choice!

Summary: Colorful rhymes with colorful illustrations
Review: Dr. Suess is one of the greatest poets for kids. Some of his greatest books are "The Cat and the Hat" and "Green Eggs and Ham". All of his books has easy to read; the print is just as bold as the words and pictures in all of his books including this one"There's a Wocket in My Pocket". I have read all of the Dr. Suess books and they all make children want to learn to read, and have fun doing it. This book especially the great rhyme, almost sing-songy, helps children want to read along and follow the superb illustrations in the book too. The pictures look almost like hand-colored pencil drawings which makes it so fresh and lively for the children to want to read this book. I absolutely recommend this book along with all of the other Dr.Suess books; it's not only fun for the children it is also fun reading for the parents. Just about any age can really sit down and enjoy a Dr. Suess book like "There's a Wocket in My Pocket" just because it is pure fun to do so.

Summary: What do you have in your pocket?
Review: I don't have a wocket in my pocket, but I do have lots of other things! (A pencil, an eraser, calculator, pen, this book, a comfy chair, some snacks, a pair of earmuffs, all the usual things! just kidding!) Seriously, this book is wonderful! I LOVE all the made up animals, like the wocket! It is soooo original!

Summary: A Must Have Book for Toddlers!
Review: I have so much fun reading this book, and my children love to hear it. It is educational and silly at the same time. It is an excellent example that learning and reading can be so much fun. It gives the child and the parent an oppurtunity to participate in something fun and beneficial. All of Dr.Seuss's books are wonderful and this book is just one more example of his amazing work!

Summary: A happy, fun book about silly friends living in your house
Review: I laughed when Amazon.com's review page inquired, "Have you read this book?" Quickly, I thought to myself, "Only about 7 or 8 times -- a day." This charming, sturdy book is bound to fascinate children with its lilting, rhyming phrases describing silly friends the reader, and listener, can discover throughout the house. Dr. Suess's signature silly words make babies and young toddlers giggle when they realize that the Wocket in their pocket not really a word at all, but a pretend word. Babies are quick to recognize which words are "real" words and which are for fun. The interplay of the two makes them smile. [And who does't love a baby's smile, especially after the third time through the book that morning.] For older toddlers, the quick read inspires creative thinking about the other characters who may live in your house, while providing a nice explanation or names for any "monsters" who may live in a closet or under the bed. There's a Wocket in my Pocket should be a staple in any young child's library, even if you have to hide for a day to regain your sanity.
