Rating: Summary: Hop on Pop Rocks Review: I think the book Hop on Pop is an awesome book because it is perfect for kids. I think all kids would enjoy this book, I Know I sure did when I was younger. I had to reread it now for a book report and it brought back memories. I remember reading this book when I was younger and laughing because it was so silly. The book's pages don't even relate to each other, but that's what makes it so interesting. I think its great! I even enjoyed reading it at my age! Kudos to Dr. Suess! He did a wonderful job because he's a wonderful children's book author.
Rating: Summary: Hop on Pop Review: I thought hop on pop was a wonderful book. I learned many rhymes from it. It was very humorous and educational. I read it over and over, it never gets old. Dr. Suess is a great author and his books are fun to read.
Rating: Summary: The best beginner's book for children Review: If you want to help your children learn to think of reading as fun rather than a chore, "Hop On Pop" is the best place to start. I bought my son this book when he was two and a half and for weeks afterwards it was his favorite bedtime story. Seuss's genius in writing this enchanting book was in combining some hilarious illustrations which the kids love with easy rhyming words which encourage children to read phonetically. When a child sees the words "Ed, Ned, Red and Ted in the..." and he knows what sound "b" makes, the word "Bed" comes almost automatically. The story itself is appealing to all toddlers (what two-year-old doesn't like to hop on Pop?) and the rhymes are almost hypnotic. Read this book aloud enough times and you start chanting to yourself "Pup up, Brown down, pup is down, where is Brown, where is Brown, there is Brown, Mister Brown is out of town." (Your child will either look at you like you are nuts or join in enthusiastically.) Three months after I bought this book for my son, he was reading it out loud to me. "Hop On Pop" is a great way to get the kids started with a lifelong interest in reading.
Rating: Summary: fair Review: In contrast, the illustrations here are wild and wonderful, and the accompanying language, while simple, is delightfully silly. For example, the rhyme "THREE TREE / Three fish in a tree / Fish in a tree? / How can that be?" is brought to life with a trio of plump, self-satisfied fish perched atop globular branches as two stymied hybrid dog-rabbit-humanoids look on in consternation.
Rating: Summary: Your kids need and deserve this Review: In one of my classes at Butler University, I was given the assignment of finding one of my favorite books from my childhood. It was not at all hard to decide upon my favorite. Not only is it the first book I read all by myself, but it is a book my father used to read to the sounds of my giggling in the background. Please buy this book. Your children need this. They need a good dose of creativity and less TV. They need a good dose of Hop on Pop!
Rating: Summary: Another Seuss Favorite Review: It's another classic tongue-tying Seuss rhyming book.
Rating: Summary: Pat is the Bomb Review: Much has been said about the merits of this book for toddlers. However, it is little known that HOP ON POP contains within its time-hallowed pages the veritable SPECIAL MAN OF OUR TIMES.Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the extraordinarily talented PAT, who has within him the power to save the world. He does this by SITTING ON THINGS, such as bats, hats, and cats. Even the admonition of "No, PAT, no! Don't sit on that!" Will not faze him. But I digress. Buy the book for yourself. Witness the brilliant spectacle that is PAT. Fall to your knees.
Rating: Summary: My Son Loves It! Review: My 17 month old son calls this book "Pop" and wants to read it all of the time. It is one of the easiest Dr. Seuss books, with very few words per page. I highly recommend this book for toddlers.
Rating: Summary: Cute in Simplicity Review: The book, "Hop on Pop" is definitely a childern's book, just look at the cover or read the first page and you know that. The reason I chose to give this book four stars is because it teaches children words that rhyme and has a cute meaning in each rhyme. It is very cute the way he has this book set up and I think that when I read it as a child, that could be one of the reasons I read and write as well as I do. I think its awesome in its simplicity. What I mean by that, is its simple, but becuase its simple its what it needs to make THIS book a success.
Rating: Summary: Best suited for very early readers Review: The language is very simple would be much more appropriate for a child 0-3 years old than the 4-8 years old listed above. Assuming you agree it's for younger children, the book is fine: simple rhymes, some silliness to keep parents involved, and easy-to-understand illustrations. Unfortunately, a book like this is very tedious on the parents. For older children (> 1), also consider "One Fish, Two Fish."
