Rating: Summary: Because of Winn Dixie Review: The Book Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo was GREAT. I would rate this book with five stars. It was about a girl who found a dog in a store called Winn-Dixie. She said the dog was hers and she took it home. She called the dog Winn-Dixie because she found it in a store called Winn-Dixie. I recommend this book to a friend because it was GREAT!!

Rating: Summary: Wonder Dog Review: This book is wonderful for 'Children of All Ages." It is about 10-year-old India Opal Buloni, new to the town of Naomi, Florida. She adopts a big, ugly, galoot of a stray dog she encounters one day when he has somehow managed to enter her local grocery store to forage for food and wreak havoc in the produce aisle. Guess which store? (That's how he got his name-o)I listened to the unabridged audio version while traveling the Upper Midwest (where, unfortunately, we do not have the Winn-Dixie chain but we do have Piggly-Wiggly. Now wouldn't THAT be a mouthful to call your dog home for supper? ;-) The reader, Cherry Jones, is a joy to hear and brings DiCamillo's characters vividly alive. And what a diverse cast of characters it is: Opal and her father, the Preacher at the Open Arms Baptist Church of Naomi; Otis the jailbird pet store man; Gertrude the parrot; the not-so-menacing Dewberry brothers; Gloria Dump; Miss Franny Block; 'pinched-face" Amanda Wilkinson; and Sweetie-Pie Thomas. Along the way, India Opal and the reader learn life lessons about the errors of pre-judging (prejudice) and that, like Littmus Lozenges, life is sweet with a little melancholy. The Newbery Honor is well-deserved and Ms. Jones' racountment is a delight.
Rating: Summary: Spectacular book. Review: Because of Winn-Dixie was a wonderful book. It has just the right amount of happiness and sorrow. And I like the ending because it's happy. Now I want to read other books by the same author.
Rating: Summary: Creativity at Its Best! Review: This was a great book. I wish she had written more books with this character in it.
Rating: Summary: What a Book! Review: I loved the main character. She was a real thinker. I wish there were more books about this character. The setting was also very real.
Rating: Summary: Because of Winn-Dixie Review: This is a timeless tale of a young girl and her dog. India Opal Buloni finds a stray dog while doing an errand for her father at Winn-Dixie. She has been lonely because she has just moved to Naomi, Florida, and she has no friends. She doesn't even have a mother to talk to, either. However, after she and Winn-Dixie become friends, the two bond with others, for example Miss Franny Block, the librarian. There are many issues issues that the text raises. The most important ones include single parent families, loneliness and friendships/relationships. India Opal lives with her father, whom she refers to as "the preacher." Her mother left the family, which leaves the preacher with the task of raising India Opal. Also important is the theme of loneliness. India Opal is very lonely. However, after she finds Winn-Dixie, she becomes friends with Otis, the owner of a pet store, because she wants to work to buy Winn-Dixie a leash and collar. She meets others along the way because of her dog. Thus, the theme of friendships and relationships. The novel is written very simply. The possible morals of the text could be to treat others kindly and befriend people who are different. Because of Winn-Dixie is probably appropriate for 4th to 9th graders, but all ages can enjoy this wonderful story.
Rating: Summary: Simplicity is sweet Review: This book was so sweet. All of the characters are adorable. It's about a girl named Opal who moves to a small town with her dad and finds a lonley dog in a supermarket. She names him Winn Dixie after the supermarket. It's about their friendship and how a girl can bring a small town together through her dog. The book looks juvenile and short but it's for all ages. My bookclub loved it. I think you will too.
