Rating: Summary: Thumbs up from My 2-year-old! Review: I worried this might be too meaty for my 2-year-old, but he adores this story. It's at once simple and engaging -- and (I believe) great fodder for the imagination. It's almost epic compared to other children's books -- so take a pass if you're looking for a quick read before bedtime! But if you want a book you can linger over with your child -- this is it.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book Ever Review: I encountered Harold when I was very young and a copy of this book has accompanied me through years of moving around... Recently my 5 year old insisted on having his own copy since I was always showing mine to everyone else... Harold's imagination, ingenuity and unique problem-solving skills are an inspiration. Simple, creative and extremely effective - if I were stuck on a desert island with only one book, this would definitely be it. (And I'd like a purple crayon too, please...)
Rating: Summary: Harold And The Purple Crayon Review: This is a story that my mother remembers reading when she was a child and I have read as a child and now my brother reads to his 7 month old son. So, for three generations, this book has made this family smile. This book is delightful and whimsical and the illustrations are so cute. This is a classic younger childrens book that I think will be read well into the next decade and beyond by millions of readers to their children because they remember reading it as a child themselves.
Rating: Summary: Classic, must have for little ones. Review: I told my mother about this book for years after having read it in kindergarten. She had never seen it. Well, this classic children's book is back in print, and even my mother now knows what the fuss was all about.Harold is a boy chock full of imagination. He meanders about with just his purple crayon, creating his surroundings. He draws himself into situtations, and has to keep his wits about him in order to draw himself out of any trouble that results in his adventures. My 4 boys always seemed to like that Harold could extract himself from whatever messes he got himself into. They are fun books, with adventures, but they end on a calming note. They are perfect for bedtime, as they don't wind the children up, but they do hold their interest. (There is a whole series of Harold and the Purple Crayon books) So, for good clean fun, as long as your little ones know not to draw on walls Harold is a never fail hit. My Harold books are all well read.
Rating: Summary: big people need this book too! Review: kids, schmids--i see this as a story that can encourage ADULTS: take a page out of harold's book and create your own happy reality! no need to stagnate in a job, friendship, marriage or town that doesn't fulfill you: just step out on faith and "draw" what you need. i've done that very thing all my life... so i am honored that this book was written in 1955, my birth year! (you GO, harold!)
Rating: Summary: Not our favorite Review: Although this is a well known, classic children's book, my girls (3&6) are not not very interested. The drawings are simple and not very colorful. The idea that Harold draws things that become real is cool, but the story is not dynamically expressed. This book is a bit too sublime for my kids.
Rating: Summary: Inspirational, my favorite childhood book Review: As a very young child, we would go to the school library, I found Harold and the Purple Crayon. This is the greatest book from my early childhood. I used to trace the pictures, then drew my own pictures. I am now an artist working at a graphics company, and I enjoy astronomy (due to the moon that followed me too!), I recently bought a new hardcopy of the book for myself just because this is one of the most memorable books from my childhood, my original copy was pretty worn out. Give it to a young person in your life and watch their imagination grow!
Rating: Summary: One of my earliest favorites. Review: This was probably one of the first books that "captured" me. I read it when I was in early grade school, probably second or third grade. It was one of those rare magical reading experiences. A few years ago I found a copy at a garage sale and bought it for my daughter. Even though she was older that I was when she read it, she also loved it and found it captivating. I definately recommend this for any child.
Rating: Summary: Harold and the purple crayon Review: This book is great because it tells the story of a boy named Harold who draws a world of his own with his purple crayon. When Harold draws stuff sometimes it turns out good and sometimes it turns out bad,but in the end it all turns out good. This book is good for little kids because it teaches them that with imagination anything is possible.
Rating: Summary: i love Harold Review: at 32 years of age, i haven't read this book in decades. but, remembering the purple crayon book invokes a cozy naivety and imagination inherent in every child.
