Review: I proudly admit that I am a college student and abosolutely LOVE the Harry Potter books! My little brother always read them and finally convinced me to, and I'm so glad I did. They are honestly the best books I have ever read. Entertaining beyond belief- whenever I read one, I just cannot seem to put it down. They are thrilling! J.K. Rowling is amazing. I would reccommend these books to people of all ages!! I just can't say enough about them!! So start reading.

Summary: You have to read these books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I received this set for Christmas, and was very excited to get my chance to see what the hype was all about. I'd already seen the 3 movies, and was looking forward to actually reading the books.

Truth be told, I wasn't particularly impressed with the first three books. After all, I already new what was going to happen! But, when I started reading Goblet of Fire, it was like getting slapped across the face with a major realization: JK Rowling is an excellent writer. She's very clear and easy to understand. She writes complex plots, but in a way that, in the end, falls together perfectly. The stories are suspenseful and enveloping.

One of Rowling's greatest strengths is her "pseudo-eposodic" style. Often, each chapter can be seen as a self-contained episode, but all the chapters tie together to create an overarching plot. This is more true of the first three books than of the fourth and fifth, but I think it can explain how Rowling can get younger children to read books that are nearly 900 pages long, yet at the same time grip older readers (I'm in my early twenties).

Some in the Christian community are concerned about these books. I can understand the concern. Unlike most fairy tales which clearly take place in a different world than our own, Harry Potter's world runs parallel to our own. This does increase the probability of confusion regarding the reality/fantasy distinction. However, the principles in Harry Potter aren't particularly anti-Christian, by any means. Just take care in making sure the reality/fantasy distinction is clear. To assist in that, I'd suggest not letting a kid under the age of 11 read the books. It's an important age in them, and they might appreciate that importance.

The Harry Potter books are a cultural hit. I believe that, looking back, they will define fantasy literature of our era. I'm glad now that I've partaken in that phenomenon, and I look forward to seeing it out.

Summary: GREAT BOOKS
Review: I was glad that I wasn't so into the Harry Potter collection till this collection came out. The fact that it came out right when I started to get hooked was perfect timing.
After reading the first book, craving for more. Because the collection has the first 5, made the wait much easier.(like right now waiting for the 6th book).
I would recommend this collection to anyone that hasn't read any of the Harry Potter books.

Summary: A Classic Tale of Good vs. Evil
Review: J.K. Rowling's books tell the amazing tale of the boy who lived, Harry Potter. Harry, protected by the undying love of his parents, survived when the evil Lord Voldemort tried to kill him as a baby. Voldemort's power was reduced to almost nothing while Harry was miraculously left with only a scar. The story begins several years later when young Harry first learns the truth about how his parents and is to begin his education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Voldemort is regaining his strength and influence, and Harry will have to face him again.

These books make an excellent addition to any personal library, no matter what the age! My little sister convinced me to give them a try and I ended up reading all five of them in under a week! These books have all the elements of a great story, from great characters to great adventures. Humor, action, and mystery kept me turning the pages into the wee hours of the morning. And as soon as things start to settle down, JKR throws in another twist to the plot--whether it be a new character, interesting object, or a new problem for Ron, Harry, and Hermione to face together.

Anybody who rates these books poorly clearly has not read them for themselves; they're just spouting off the anti-HP rhetoric fed to them in Sunday School. Please give these books a chance before disregarding them; I promise you won't regret it.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND these books for people of all ages who can appreciate a great story.

Summary: Okay, this review is about THIS BOX SET... not Harry Potter
Review: Let me be succinct about the contents of this special limited edition box set so you know exactly what you're ordering. This box set consists of a very lovely cardboard box that's sealed all the way around (in other words, it doesn't have an open face so you can pull books out and put them back like most box sets). It's a lovely cardboard box, but just a cardboard box nonetheless. Inside is the box set for books 1-4 (complete in their own box) and there's a regular hardback copy of Order of the Phoenix shoved in beside it. Laying rather neatly on top of the whole thing is a blue leather bookmark that says "Harry Potter". So if you own the hardback books, ESPECIALLY if you were one of the people who bought them in the box set for Books 1-4, then you're paying for two things when you buy this: A) a very lovely cardboard box, and B) a very unremarkable bookmark that just happens to have "Harry Potter" printed on it. If those are really worth fifty bucks or so to you, then by all means purchase it. Otherwise, you've got everything important in the box at home already. For those who don't own any of the books in hardback (I did not until I bought this set), then I suppose this is a good deal for getting them. If you're looking for a truly "special" edition of these books, though, jog it on over to Amazon.co.uk and look for the special editions of each of the Harry Potter books. They come leather bound with a different cover and gilded pages, with the original English text, and have the bookmark built in. They're very lovely and probably far more worth your time than this product is if you want a collectable set.

Summary: Why collect halfway?
Review: Mixed emotion here, firstly I would like to say that I love the Harry potter books. Each one is intelligently written, and the later books just leave you desperate to read the next volume.

As for this set however I really don't see why anyone would buy it.

If you haven't read the books (shame on you), buy or borrow the paperbacks.

If you are a true Hary Potter fan, then buying a set with the terrible american covers, and the idiotic american title for the original novel (it's the PHILOSOPHER'S stone, not the sorcerer's stone), seems a little heretical to me. If you want a collector's item surely the original covers and the proper titles are more worth collecting?

The main issue I have with this set though is the same issue I have with DVD box sets that come out when you KNOW there will be more titles available (Star Wars episode 1&2 for example). Why do it? You know that you'll only end up buying a box set with all 9 novels in, and you'll never be able to sell the 5 novel set afterwards.

This is expensive and pointless.

Summary: More then a book
Review: More then a book.

Harry Potter is now a legend; I will pass these books on to my children & grandchildren. I feel the books show a real image of life but with a twist. The people that think these books are evil have never read them. Fantasy is fantasy & if you think your kids are going to become posses by an evil spirit, wake up you're dreaming. Just open the book & read it one chapter and you will be hooked.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Hogwarts or Bust!
Review: My only beef with the Harry Potter books is that they end! I read the entire first five in a week-and now I'm seriously hooked-they're worse than crack!

They're wonderful reading for children, a classic show-down between good and evil. The message of love, friendship, courage and loyalty shines throughout the series.

Harry Potter will go down in history as a literary classic-for ALL ages.
