Rating: Summary: My 2 year old has loved this book for 10 months now!! Review: We received this book as a gift when I was expecting our second child. My son was just over a year and a half when we started reading it. The pictures are simple and nice to look at. Unlike many of the other "sibling" books out there, this one does NOT talk about feeling jealous or upset about the new baby. We liked that - so my son was not thinking of sibling rivalry before the baby came! We are going to order I'm a Big Sister for a friend of mine, based on how much my child has enjoyed and continues to enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: Perfect for Younger Big Brothers Review: We wanted to prepare our 2 and 1/2 year old for the arrival of his baby sister, so we ordered several books on pregnancy and being a big brother. By far, this was the easiest for him to understand, and is the most requested book in his library. He reminds me all the time that "babies like to be warm and cozy" and he loves to say that he is "special to Mommy and Daddy", just like the big brother in the book. While I plan to breastfeed, and the baby in the book is bottle fed, we've simply explained to him that some babies are fed from the breast and others from the bottle. Otherwise, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for an upbeat and simple book for a younger older brother.
Rating: Summary: Not for small children. Review: When I ordered this book, I intended to use it to help my 2 1/2 year old adjust to the idea of a new baby in the family. This book is written for older children. It was not what I expected based on the book's summary. It is very wordy -- don't get this for a child less than 4.
Rating: Summary: The very best book we've found for a new big brother! Review: When I was pregnant with my second child, we went searching for the best book available to help our son get ready to be a big brother. It was quite an eye-opening afternoon in the bookstore stacks -- we couldn't believe how many of the books in this genre were almost wholly negative, portraying new siblinghood as something that the older child was really going to hate. That definitely was not what we were looking for.At last we found this little book, though, and it's perfect -- it covers some of the negatives of having a new sibling in the family, but its overall tone is positive and joyful, and at the same time matter-of-fact and realistic about what life with a new baby is like. Our son loves this book (we still read it now, even though his baby sister is 8 months old!), and other friends' children whom we've given it to love it, too.
