Summary: What a gem!
Review: This is a terrific book. The main (nameless) character is a big sister now, and she explains what it's like to have a new baby in the house. ("The new baby is so little...too little to walk, too little to talk, to little to eat candy or apples or ice cream...") I have given this book to little girls with new siblings, and it has become a daily must-read. The book puts the emphasis on the newness of big-sisterhood rather than on the new baby, and that is a treat when there is a newborn in the house. The girls can really identify with the big sister in the book, and they love seeing that other babies do just what their little sibling does! Of course, the book includes the message that Mom & Dad have enough love for the big sister and the baby, and that a new baby is another part of a loving family.

Summary: From a child's point of view
Review: We are expecting #2 in March and our almost 4 year old loves this book. It is perfect for preparing a toddler or preschooler for the arrival of a new baby because it focuses on the child, from their perspective. It builds their confidence, and gently teaches them how they will be expected to act ("I must ask mommy first") My only concern is that it shows the baby being bottlefed, and does not mention breastfeeding. For families where bottles will not be used this may be confusing for children. Other than that, I'd highly recomend it!

Summary: My daughter loves it!
Review: We bought this book for our now 2 yr. old daughter as we're expecting our second child in 7 months. Wow! She loves it! It has easy to understand text, even for a 2 yr. old, and really highlights the role of the older child. Also, one of the nice things about this book is the author never mentions whether the new baby is a boy or girl, so it works for everyone. I don't know what it is about this book...it just works! Highly recommended!!

Summary: Great book for toddlers
Review: We bought this book for our two-year-old, who was adopted, when we decided to adopt a second child. Our daughter loves reading this book and understands how much fun it can be to be the big sister. I think it's actually helping her look forward to the big event! Since the book doesn't mention childbirth or show a pregnant mommy (I had to return a gift book my daughter recieved that showed a pregnant mommy and said "A mommy can have a baby inside her"), it's perfect for adoptive families. This book (and the boys' version) is the gift I always give new big siblings, whether their younger sibling is biological or adopted. In general, it's a great book and a great gift!

Summary: What a wonderful book
Review: We got this for our daughter (2 1/2) to let her know she's going to be a big sister, and SHE LOVES IT. It has QUICKLY become her favorite book and like to repeat the big kid things she can do. I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who's going to have a new big sister in the house!

Summary: "Big Sister" Endures
Review: We received this book shortly after our son was born, and our 2-1/2 year old daughter loved it right away. She still asks to read it, 7 months later. She loves being a big sister, and the book reinforces it in a very positive way. She identifies with the character, down to wanting to get hair bows just like in the illustrations. We like that it is gender-specific as to the "big" sibling, but not the baby.

Summary: Excellent book for introducing new baby
Review: We received this sensational book right after our two year old became a big sister. She loves the book and points out the objects that are like the ones she has. She wants her bunny with her when we read the book (most every night) because the big sister has a bunny. Since it is gender specific, she relates to the story and understands herself as a big sister. Very much like the father participating in baby care and the helpful information at the back of the book about introducing a baby into your family. I now give this as a gift everytime I can.

Summary: Just what the doctor ordered!
Review: Yes, yes. This is EXACTLY what we needed when our friend had a new baby and the five-year-old sister was a little concerned about her role in the family. This is all positive reinforcement -- none of the negative stuff I found in other books like how the baby gets all the attention, etc. This makes the girl feel as special as she is (I'm sure the boy book is the same way) and is presented with ideas for things to do and nice illustrations. I highly recommend it!
