Rating: Summary: Our daughter can't wait to be a big sister Review: After reading this book to my 3 year old, she is more excited than ever about being a big sister. Everyday she asks if we are going to the hospital to pick up her baby sister (she insists it will be a girl). We chose this book because we had read that other books talked about conception and we thought for a 3-year old that was a little much. The author does a great job of explaining issues about what life will be like when the younger sibling arrives. This is a must for all those expecting a new arrival. Also the author's picture book regarding this subject is exceptional.

Rating: Summary: Bottle Bias? Review: Given the importance of the topic, this book could have (and should have) been better. Instead, it's curiously bland, with a "flatness" of language and/or mood that's hard to pin down. It also assumes that newborns are routinely bottle-fed. So parents-to-be looking for books to help young ones understand why they can't nurse--but the new baby can--won't find any help here.
Rating: Summary: Nice book with one drawback Review: I bought this book when my son was born for my 2 year old daugther after reading all the good reviews. I like it a lot - except for the bottle feeding reference. As a breastfeeding mom I would have preferred it if the author simply left feeding out. There are plenty of other things that a big sister can do.
Rating: Summary: This book is perfect for big sisters to be! Review: I love this book because it's short enough to read to a toddler, yet not "babyish". It doesn't automatically assume that the new big sister will have problems with jealousy; instead it addresses the reason she will celebrate having a new baby in the family. It shows the new sibling really involved in the care of the baby too. The only quibble I have is that I wish it showed a nursing mother *and* a dad feeding with a bottle, instead of just the bottle.
Rating: Summary: A perfect book to introduce the "new baby" to a young child. Review: I used this book first to introduce the idea of a new baby to my 2 year old daughter. She loves the pictures of the entire family involved in care of the new baby. She consistently requests this book over all others. I like that the author explains why the baby cries (because she might be wet or hungry) and involves the big sister in the daily care of the child. The importance of big sister's role in the family is played up. The story is told by the "big sister" and ends with Mom and Dad hugging the big sister and her confident exclamation that they love her and that she's "the only me."
Rating: Summary: Excellent preparation for toddlers Review: My 18 month old daughter and I read this book together several times each day during my last month of pregnancy. For a few weeks it was her favourite story. She loved it and would even make crying baby noises on the appropriate page. I think it helped prepare her for the arrival of her sibling and now she is a wonderful "big sister" and aware her brother is "too little to talk, too little to walk" etc. My only complaint about this book is the assumption that the baby will be bottle fed rather than breast fed.
Rating: Summary: Just What I Was Looking For! Review: My 2 1/2 year old daughter LOVES this book - it is exactly what I was looking for to help explain her new role in our family as a big sister. She is so excited about the birth of our baby and is eager to help. The book makes the big sister feel very special and points out all of the things that the big sister can do that babies can't (eating pizza, apples and ice cream, for instance!). We've had this book 3 weeks and every night my daughter has demanded we read it to her - now she has the whole book memorized and reads it to her dolls! I'm so glad I found this one!
Rating: Summary: Excellent for young children Review: My 2 year old got this book when I was expecting our second child and it was perfect. It describes things concerning the baby in terms a small child can understand (not always the easiest thing to do). The book helped explain some of the topics such as holding the baby, feeding, changing, always ask Mommy, etc. I did not think the book was "flat" or "bland", instead I thought it to be very age appropriate. I think it is such a great book for a first child that I am getting the "Big Brother" version for a friend's son. P.S. Explaining nursing is the parent's job, not the book's.
Rating: Summary: This book became my daughter's favorite. Review: My daughter absolutely loves this book and it really helped her relate with her baby brother and understand the changes our family was going through.
