Summary: Every child should have a copy of this book.
Review: I checked this book out of the library for my sons (age 3 and 5) and they got mad when I had to return it (late, and very much worse from wear) So I bought it. The text is so even keeled, and the characters so honestly and fairly treated, that it is really hard to find anything at fault. The pictures are engaging, and even my 3 year old retains much of the basic stories. They seem to like the heros and the trickery. I like the fairness in the genders. Men and Women have strengths and weaknesses and all are addressed, but none of it is gender biased. The morals in the tales are subtle, but would be obvious to an older child. As an adult, it is a wonderful refresher course on the origins of the english language. In a time where heros and role models are largely lacking in many kids lives, this book fufills in a wonderful way, that need. Every child should have a copy of this book. It has it all.

Summary: One of the best books on Greek Mythology for children ever!
Review: I remember reading this book so often as a child that my librarian wouldn't let me check it out anymore that year! It's simply told, with beautiful illustrations that make the Greek Gods and Goddesses come alive. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!

Summary: introduce your child to the beauty of myth
Review: this was by far my all-time favorite book as a child. my parents gave it to me while i was stuck in the hospital for 3 weeks with a broken arm. i devoured this book from cover to cover and back again. later, i made my friends play "gods and goddesses" with me instead of playing house. this is a great children's introduction to the beauty of myth.

Summary: Educational and Entertaining; the Perfect Book!!
Review: I don't know about all of you, but Greek Mythology is something I just can't live without! I pondered long and hard over many other volumes that were of the same material, but VERY longwinded. I don't have a lot of time on my hands, but I was just dying to learn of the famous Zues, Hera, Aphrodite, Ares, Athena, and all of the other gods and goddesses who governed the world high atop Mount Olympus. Also of Cronus, Rhea, Gaea, Uranus, and other gods and goddesses I never knew about. Then I found this book, this treasure amongst literature. The artwork alone is enthralling and the detail in which the stories are told is absolutly mesmerizing. The book is one of the best and one would certainly advise a friend to read it if one is streched for time yet has an incredible lust for Greek Mythology. The stories are easy to understand and yet so graphical that even the simplest child could lose themselves in the stories of Eos, Hercules, or Heracles as he is called in the book, Persephone, Demeter, and Phaethon. If you love Greek Myths, this book is an absolute must

Summary: I highly recommend it for all ages!
Review: A wonderfully detailed compendium of greek mythology! If everyone would pick up a copy and read one chapter, it would be a billion-dollar best-seller! There is a line between very detailed and easy-to-read. This book is deep in the heart of the detailed zone, while somehow still staying easy-to-read. Be it a small child, a middle-aged adult, or a senior citizen, all ages will be delighted with this highly detailed, awesomely illustrated, soon-to-be classic

Summary: Audio Book is captivating, enchanting and wonderful
Review: No need for a lot of words here, it is just excellent, and probably my favorite audio book ever. The talents of Broderick, Poiter, Newman and Turner simply inspire me. Enthralling, interesting, as well as addictive.

Summary: Learning without trying
Review: My copy of this book is tattered and more than 20 years old -- I read it dozens of times as a child, traced the pictures, and generally worshipped this book, especially the colorful, loving art. When I got older, I learned I had actually ingested many of the tales and characters without even trying to, and the knowledge has been useful throughout my life. For people who say this book is too simplistic, or don't like the pictures, I think they were just looking for something like Bullfinch's -- which I find dry. And for the one reviewer who thought it was too complicated for kids as well as adults, well, I'm not sure what to say. I read it at the age of 7, and completely understood it. When I have children, this is the first book I'm getting them!

Summary: My Favorite Myth Book Growing Up
Review: Yes, I read this in elementary, and, unlike what Paula Morrow says, I loved it as a kid. It's a good read for youngsters and helps them out later scholatically when they need to know about the Greek pantheon. Any class of English lit, Latin, History, etc. will have allusions to them. Yes, some day they should read Bulfinch's to get the full story--fuller, anyway--but this is a great introduction. If you're thinking of setting Bulfinch's Mythology, 300-500 pp, in front of a grade-schooler, you have got to be out of your mind.

This one's for the kids.

The incredibly colorful illustrations and easy-to-understand language allow this book to relate the story of Zeus and his raucous and dysfunctional family. Each god gets their own chapter, and their most important myths are explained. (their used as gender-neutral 3rd person singular possessive

Again, if you're looking for a more-in-depth title, Bulfinch is the way to go. If you're looking for a neat book on myths to share with your kid or young friend, this would be it.

Summary: Buyer Beware
Review: I did not find the book lucid. I cannot name one child who would enjoy this book.
I read it and tossed it into my trash can.

Oh is it badly written and presented!

It goes like this: Here is a huge number of gods dumped on your head in total chaos, none of whom have one charming characteristic, not one story is worth a dang because they aren't lucid, and you really ought to be reading Bulfinch instead.
