Rating: Summary: Wonderful Nightitme Story for Young Children Review: My 17 month old sons loves this book. When it is story time, he will go and get this book first and then again towards the end.The illustrations are wonderful (and all the details too - I love the barbar doll on the elephants cage and the ernie doll in the armidillo's cage). We point to the animals and make up our own stories. Highly recmmend to all parents!
Rating: Summary: Fabulous Review: My 4 year old son picked out this board book for my 1 year old daughter's Christmas present last year. It quickly became THE book, particularly due to the expressions of surprise to find the animals in the house! It has also sparked an interest in visiting our local zoo and discussions of what the animals do at night.
Rating: Summary: We read it every night! Review: My sister sent this book when my son was only a month old, and he has been read the book almost every day in the subsequent 15 months. With very few words, but the most expressive illustrations, this book tells the story of a naughty gorilla who frees all of the animals in the zoo and leads them into the zookeeper's house and bedroom. Simple as it is, the book provides lots to talk about--the names of the animals as they join the line to the zookeeper's house, the little mouse with the banana, the toys in the animals' cages, the surprise of the zookeeper's wife when she realizes the animals have bunked down in her bedroom. (You almost get the feeling this is not the first time this has happened.) The little touches are wonderful, my favorite being the peeled and eaten banana at the end, after the little mouse totes it around throughout the book. This is my favorite book of my son's and I believe he understands the humor of it. He's now climbing the stairs and I can get him up to his room by promising we'll read "Goodnight, Gorilla."
Rating: Summary: The illustrations are precious and the story is wonderful. Review: The best part about this book is that the text is minimal; the illustrations provide plenty of ideas for you and your child to examine and delight over on your own!
Rating: Summary: Fun for all ages Review: I recently picked up this book at a neighbor's house and I could not stop laughing -- and I'm 29 years old (dare I admit that?)! It's adorable.
Rating: Summary: Find something new every time you open this book. Review: My son received this book on his first birthday and it has been a favorite since then (almost a year ago). There are wonderful details in the illustrations that give us something new to look for each time we read it. My husband and I enjoy it probably as much as my son does. I would recommend it for any young (or not so young) child.
Rating: Summary: Favorite of a Neighbor's Children, Now a Favorite of Mine Review: Riveting. A next door neighbor had a copy of this book and she said that it was her kids' favorite. Got a copy right here through Amazon. I've read it to my daughter several times. She loves the pictures especially the "blackout" page with just the eyes of the zookeeper's wife showing. A great story for any collection of children's stories.
Rating: Summary: Detailed illustrations and exceptionally rich colors. Review: "Goodnight Gorilla" is one of the most magical children's books I have ever come across. The colors the illustrator uses are guaranteed to draw the eye, but the real joy of the pictures is in their details. There is a balloon: it floats, gently, page by page, away into the moonlit night. There are very few words in the story but they are carefully chosen to promote a dream-like almost surreal atmosphere. My daughter has loved the book since she was 8 months old. She's two now and still wants to read it to me. Magic.
Rating: Summary: This may become your baby's favorite book! Review: Forget the suggested age listing of this delightful book; it it suitable for infants through young elementary-school students (who will want to tell the wordless story to you). The drawings are engaging, the story simple and sweet, and the details (like the balloon, lost early in the story, that appears smaller and smaller in every picture) magnificent. This was my twins' favorite book for months, and every time I give it as a baby gift, I get a delighted call back from the parents within days of first reading. Don't miss this one! --And don't bother with the paperback, unless you plan to purchase more than one copy per child. This one is a keeper.
Rating: Summary: Clever gorilla wins children's hearts Review: I bought this book for my newborn son because I liked the colors. Now he is 17 months old. I've glued the book together once, and it will soon be time to buy a replacement. He loves this book. He has enetered a truck phase, only happy with books that at least have pictures of trucks, but this book is an exception. If he sees it, he wants to read it. I don't know when kids start to pick up story lines, but he knows this story and thinks it's pretty funny. His favorite picture is when the zookeeper's wife discovers the gorilla in her bed (ha,ha). A visual delight, sure to be loved by all toddlers.
