Summary: Dog Heaven
Review: Dog Heaven is about when dogs go to heaven. God does not give the dogs wings because they love to run. There are lakes and plains for the dog to play on. Sometimes the dog visits its old home. In heaven god makes a new home for the dog. The home has all the stuff the dog likes.I would recommend this book for people who like dogs.

Summary: A wonderful comfort for the loss of a beloved pet.
Review: Friends gave me this book when I had to euthanize one of my very beloved dogs. Although it's a children's book, I found it very comforting. It's a sweet story, beautifully illustrated. If you love dogs and regardless on your religious beliefs or lack thereof, I think you'll find this something to treasure and read over and over. A thoughtful and caring gift to someone who has lost a pet.

Summary: Most helpful
Review: After losing my dog, I read every adult pet loss book I could find. Still, I did not find peace and comfort until my friend gave me Dog Heaven. It was a simple answer to a difficult question. Since then I have passed on this wonderful book to my 2 1/2 year old nephew and to many clients at the vet I work at. Everyone has told me of the comfort and beauty that this book brings and my nephew knows that "Bear is in heaven".

Summary: Earthly visits
Review: This is a wonderful book, and, as with other books written for children, delights the heart of the adult perhaps even more. It can certainly help to ease the aching heart. I would like to bring up one of its precepts here--because of a book written specifically on this, which is visitation by pets which have crossed over to their owners: The Soul of Your Pet, Evidence for the Survival of Animals in the Afterlife (Scott S. Smith) gives amazing, credible evidence that our beloved furry (or feathered) babies/companions, do, indeed, on occasion return for "visits". There are some recountings of multiple witnesses, and sometimes both humans and their living pets see the spirit one. This book is enormously comforting; it is for adults and perhaps older children. There seems to be no viable alternative explanation to the premise that animals, indeed, survive death, just as humans do. This premise is fully supported in the Bible, too. Even an atheist or nihilist will not be able to explain the incidents away; it will confound skeptics. Another book that deals with pets going to Heaven, is Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates, by Gary Kurtz. It is written specifically for "Christians-- it does preach "the Faith", with the author, a lay Baptist minister , attempting to win non-Christians over as well. It is heartwarming and touching-- the author's love of animals shines through-- but be prepared for Mr. Kurz's admonition that although our pets go to Heaven because they are innocent, humans have to accept Christianity in order to join them there. And, to coin an original phrase, last but absolutely not least, for Heaven's sake, please do yourself a favor -- go to the site of For Every Dog an Angel (also one for cat) and get either of these wonderful little books-they are a "must read" - and you will find these "keepers"! Either of these books should be read by anyone who loves a pet-- these do not concentrate on the loss of a pet, but rather the relationship between a pet and its human. I treasure my copy of For Every Dog an Angel!

Summary: Heaven can't wait
Review: I bought this book for our family to help us cope with the loss of our greyhound, Simon. He was killed instantly by a car just before Christmas, it all happened so suddenly that we didn't say our goodbyes. This book is great, it makes us smile to know that we will meet again in Heaven one day. I would recommend this to anyone who has lost a loved one.

Summary: A lovely book, a great comfort
Review: ...this is an unusually tender and compassionate work. The sweet, primitive drawings are gentle and lovely. Cynthia Rylant is a a true animal lover, and a genius in knowing just the right thing to say to heal a heart broken by the loss of a beloved pet. This book is perfect for children and adults alike. Rylant's book, Cat Heaven, is equally wonderful. ...all animals are God's children and there is indeed a place in heaven for them.

Summary: Do you believe?
Review: I do not believe that dogs/cats/animals go to heaven. I found that this book is somewhat offensive to my religion. I you are a strict person who believes deeply about your religion and you want your kids to be like you do not buy this book. It goes against many things is religion, for instance, their is a separate heaven for animals and that god is watching over them more than the people. I don't like it!

Summary: Absolutely a great book!
Review: For a short time I was a classroom assistant in a childrens section of a library. I was standing at the front dest checking in books, and I came across this book, Dog Heaven. Naturally I stopped and read it, and shocked myself because began to cry. This book is comforting and happy and goes right to the heart. It is perfect for anyone who has lost a dog, or even has a sick one. I send it to people whom I know will love it. I think all vets should keep a box handy.

Summary: good for the soul
Review: This is the number book for someone who has lost a dog that was a member of their family, not just a pet. I received mine as a gift after losing 2 dogs, and have since purchased this for any and everyone I know that has lost a dog. It is sad, but gives the reader hope that their loved creature is running free and living large above and beyond.

Summary: Simply beautiful
Review: The simplicity of this book and the tenderness of its message is deeply affecting. I've never lost a dog - I'm not even that fond of them - but I bawl like a baby about two pages in. Not out of despair, but out of an overwhelming sense of beauty. I bought this for my mother, who lost her "baby" just over a year ago. She found it very comforting in a difficult time.
