Summary: Reader
Review: While I did appreciate the original story line and the creative way in which the plot was put together, it did have it's disapointments. I felt that they should have went through Mo's book more, I mean I was just dying of curiousity. Also, the story did seem a bit drawn out. Really predictable too. I got really bored with the story line as I went. The only reason I finished it was because my next trip to the library was cancelled due to snow. All in all I thought the book had potential, a good story line, but not very deep as far as plots go.The climax was dead, the rising climax suferable, and the conclusion disapointing. Just thought I'd give warning.

Summary: INTERESTING!
Review: Finally there is a book that is fantasy but still takes place in the present day. I liked seeing what the characters would encounter. The ending is not like a "happily ever after" as you usually see in fantasy stories. Instead in this book not all of the characters are happy with the ending. This made the book much more interesting.

Summary: A World of Action -- a review by Nisha, age 11
Review: Meggie and her father, Mo, are perfectly happy in their shoebox of a house. Mo is a book repairer, and Meggie is a book lover who is perfectly normal until Dustfinger visits Mo. Dustfinger is a fire-eater with a tame marten. Meggie gets thrown into a world of action, and tries to save herself, Mo and her book-loving aunt, Elinor. Meggie finds out that Dustfinger came out of a book, Inkheart, with two evil men. Now Meggie has to send them back or kill them, but how? She doesn't want to kill Dustfinger, but the rest are bad enough. Only one person can help her now ...

Cornelia Funke did a really good job on this book. The plot is unpredictable, and everything seems so real, even though everything is impossible. This book is really good for people who like adventure, fantasy, and a little bit of mystery. The characters are all different, and they all have interesting personalities. For example, Meggie is brave and ready to help her father, and Capricorn hates Meggie and her father. At school, during homework, and at friends' houses, I always wanted to finish reading this book.

Summary: SOOO COOL!!!!!!!!
Review: Right when I started the first page, I new I couldn't be able to put it down. Every night, I would sneak on the light, and start to read, trying to to wake the others. And, when I finished it, I was sad that it was over, but so glad that it ended with such a happy feeling. This book is probably my fav book of all time. I sooo hope that you love this book as much as I did! Because I totally LOVED IT!!!! ^_-

Summary: An Inspired Tale!
Review: Hello, before my review I would like to clarify that I am Christian, and after my initial review I like to say a word to Christian readers/listeners/viewers etc, but feel free to only read the beginning of my review. :)

***

This book was a delightful read it was a fun complex tale and throughout you found yourself dying to know what would happen.

The Basic Premise: What if you could read out loud and have characters appear out of books? This was what made me want to get this book in the first place! Anyone who loves to read will adore the way this story portrays characters and books in a very real fashion, of course by the time you're done you want to be careful reading aloud and may never want to write a story again! :)

***

The Plot: The plot held very well throughout, beginning at a point where you don't know anything about anyone and are only left to guess, if you've read very extensive reviews you probably know a lot about the story as it is but there are many surprises awaiting you. I will admit that many times the answers that took the characters forever to obtain seemed rather obvious to me, but other times I was left completely stumped. Though there were some definite holes in the plot (which I will get to) it keeps your attention and you just can't wait to see what will happen next!

One thing I really liked is how there were so many recognizable quotes at the beginning of each chapter. I have read many books with quotes and this is the first one where I recognized many of them. Such titles as "Lord of the Rings", "Peter Pan", "Watership Down", and even Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451"! Cornelia Funke did such a good job at finding quotes that fit her story too. To be quite honest after reading several of them you're not sure whether she molded a plot line after the quote or just got incredibly lucky!

***

The Characters: It's the characters I'm always interested in, and this story provided some really enjoyable ones. I can't really tell who they were without giving something away but they included such personalities as:

A young girl, who carried through nicely with flaws and quirks intact only occasionally falling into the 'typical pretty/cute girl character' roll.

An older man, the girl's father, who provides a reasonable, soft-spoken if not sometimes incredibly guilt ridden character.

A slightly bitter younger man who is really the one you find yourself intrigued by. The villains and their motivations aside you are really curious to know what will happen to this character.

A brusque, stubborn almost solely comical woman, you will definitely find her amusing, but there were times when I really wished they'd get back to the other characters.

A young boy, a little older than the girl, he is not introduced for a while but he quickly became one of my favorite characters!

Then of course there are the villains who do their job as villains well and an older man who plays a very large part in the story.

With so many intriguing characters you can almost forgive the book its several flaws which can largely be attributed to the fantasy angle.

***

The Flaws: One of the flaws is the very idea of reading things out of books themselves, it's never really clarified whether you read a character out of their story entirely or just take a copy of them and their character continues to live out their life in the story. It leads to some confusing dilemmas throughout the book but it's never really explained.

Another problem is some of the ending material feels rushed, you reach the end of the book and feel the need for a little more explanation, it also seems to be leading to a sequel as it leaves several ends lying open.

***

Altogether: A fine book and though written for children in some ways, it definitely grabs the attention of teens and older readers. It exceeds her first book "The Thief Lord" by far and I was very impressed with how Cornelia Funke's writing has improved, I will hope to see more stories from her!

***

A word to other Christian Readers:

There isn't a whole lot to note here, this story is largely a child's tale in style though there are some things to keep in mind. The lead villain is known for his cruelty and some of the things he is noted for doing (killing innocent people, burning their houses down, kidnapping children etc.) could be disturbing.

Also there is some implicated inappropriate behavior on the part of the villain's henchmen. They live in a village and have many young woman who cook and clean and for the most part that's what they are said to do. But there are implications of more, sometimes subtly, sometimes rather obvious, though this will likely go over your children's heads it may be something to keep in mind.

Also, though God and the devil are mentioned a couple times, it is really hard to see where the author stands on religion and these small notes may be disagreeable to you.

Summary: Enchanting!
Review: I have never been one to pass on a story of fantasy and magic, and I am so glad I read this one. I was caught up in every page, never truly knowing what I would find when I turned the page. Cornelia Funke has once again written a book that will be cherished in my library - along with "Thief Lord" - for a very long time. I look forward to another novel from this amazing writer!

Summary: Inkheart is okay
Review: I'm surprised by the reviews that said that this was the best book they've ever read. Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty good book, but there are many better books out there (including the author's own Thief Lord). The characters in Inkheart are a little bland, and the book drags in a couple of places. Overall, it is a good story, but not a great one. While I am anxiously awaiting the next King Fortis, Harry Potter and Unfortunate Events books, I will approach a sequel to Inkheart (if Funke writes one)with mild disinterest.

Summary: Great book!!!!
Review: I really loved this book. I bought it because I read The Thief Lord and loved that one, too. This book is about a girl named Meggie who has a father who can do something special: he can summon things out of books. This book is an exciting adventure and you won't regret buying it. I reccommended it to my mom and she loved it too. A book for kids and adults.

Summary: A World of Imagination
Review: If you like the fabulous book Eragon you would like Inkheart, a great book by Cornelia Funke. It is about a girl named Meggie who does not know her mother. As Meggie grew older her father was keeping a dark secret away from her. But that secret changes her life forever.

A father with a special, a brave girl, and a world of adventure.
The book Inkheart is about Meggie who when was very small her mother disappeared while her father read to her a story called Inkheart. Her father calls himself the book doctor. He gives the books new bindings and puts on a new covers. But Meggie's father never reads to her out loud. Meggie felt like he was hiding something from her. But one night, before she went to bed she looked out she saw a person in her back yard. But when that man came into her home her life will change forever.

Inkheart is a fabulous book for people who like adventures and a world of imagination. I would say this is a great book for people 9-14. I would rate this book a five star because it's a wonderful book. I bet you can't stop reading the endless pages.
