Rating: Summary: The Best Review: These tiny books are wonderful!! The simplicity is so appealing. I bought my first set 8 yrs ago when my son was 4. He learned to read quickly with the help of these books. I now have a 4 yr old daughter, who is learning & enjoying them. The text is super simple use of phonics. The plain black drawings are a welcome in a world so over done with screaming character voices & constantly moving blasts of color. The stories are cute & funny & always get a chuckle. I highly rate these books because they are the best.
Rating: Summary: BOB Books First - EXCELLENT Review: This is a great set for any new reader. My daughter has not put these down and is ready for the next set. The simple black and white drawings really help readers focus on the words and not try to guess from the pictures. The stories are short and entertaining. A must have to encourage your beginner reader.
Rating: Summary: Bob Books First! Level A, Set 1 Review: This is a WONDERFUL set of books. My 4 year old daughter has just begun the book, "Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons," and within about two weeks, she can read a real book!! These go hand in hand with allowing the child to begin reading with success. HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Rating: Summary: Excellent for new readers Review: This is an excellent series of books for new readers. My son started kindergarten in September and was very frustrated that he was unable to read. A lot of books like Cat and the Hat have some words that he can and can't read, but Bob Books First have three letter words that are easy for him to sound out and read. Bob Books First is a 12 book series that build off of each other, so his confidence grew as he went from the easy red books to the more challenging yellow books with longer sentences. I am looking forward to going through the entire series now that my son has mastered the first set, and I strongly recommend the first set for young children who want to learn how to read.
Rating: Summary: Great for Learners Review: This is one of the most crucial series for young children learning to read. When my son was in Kindergarten, he learned letters but struggled with phonics. Starting First grade, he was below grade level. I bought 2 sets of BOB Books, and by mid First grade, he was on-level and reading the bigger books provided by the school. I did not buy many more sets of BOB Books because, in his case at least, they were quickly outgrown. I'm sure that will be the case with all students, these books are simply great for teaching. By the beginning of 2nd grade, he was reading above grade level, and has been ever since. He's in 5th now, and reads high school leveled books. I have nothing but good things to say about these books, I wish I had found them sooner. I turned to them when I became frustrated with the public school's phonics curriculum. Since he struggled with sounding out words and rhyming, he needed more help. With this series, I was able to stick with phonics teaching but provide him much more individual assistance than the school. I can't praise these books enough.
Rating: Summary: Perhaps the best way to help your child begin to read! Review: This the beginning of an outstanding series of books, first introduced to me by my son's Montessori school. They are far better than the "see spot run" books of yore. They are intended to build upon a phonics-based learning program, either pre-school or home-taught. Once your child has mastered the sight and basic sounds of the alphabet, you can help them begin to "sound out" this series of "Bob" books. Let them work their way through the letters, sounds and words - you'll be amazed what they can do! We now routinely read one story to our 5 year old son, and then he reads a "Bob" book to us. It's a great investment in your child (Note - you can later donate them to a local school or library and write them off - save the receipt...of course, I'm not a tax professional....:-)These books work. You need these before your child can get to "Dr. Seuss", and they beat "see spot run" to pieces. Trust me - I didn't believe it until I saw my son launch into them and practice his letter recognition and phonics skills in front of me. It's worth the investment!
Rating: Summary: "I Can Read, Mommy!" Review: This was my 4yo son's reaction to Bob Books. Within his first week of reading instruction (using Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons), my son was able to read all the way through his first Bob Book without assistance. Now, less than a month later, he literally BEGS me to let him read these books. Yesterday he sat down and read through 6 of them in a row! He would have kept going had I not put lunch on the table. These books are much easier to read than other books geared at beginning readers, and as a result boose children's confidence and encourage them to keep practising. While these books do not have the same dramatic appeal as Peter Rabbit, etc, they do have silly little stories that inevitably bring laughter into the often frustrating &/or boring process of learning to read, without necessitating long or complex words that tend to discourage the earliest beginning readers. When it comes to reading all alone, my son prefers Bob Books to any other early readers (Little Bear, etc) we have in the house. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Rating: Summary: Our Son Loves These!! Review: We got these for our son's fifth birthday. He had been working with some phonics cards for a while and knew most of the sounds. What we couldn't find, though, were books that were simple enough for him to practice the real reading. Most of the books just had too many different types of sounds and see-and-say words to allow him to practice. The Bob Books have taken all of that away! These books have one, at most two, short sentences on each page. Most of the sounds in the sentences fall within one or two vowel sounds. This has really taken away the overwhelm that he felt before looking at whole paragraphs in other children's books. Now that he feels confident that he can read, he is progressing quickly into more and more difficult material. Buy the Bob Books. I don't know ANYONE who has gotten them and been disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Great for Beginning Readers Review: We have been using this series for several months. My son loves the stories, they are appealing to little ones and I have been pleased with the gradual progression of the series. He is still in kindergarten and is moving rapidly through the last of the series. I recommend these books highly.
Rating: Summary: Bob Books First Review: We recently purchase the first set of Bob Books for my 4 yr old, and he just loves them. He is just thrilled that he can read a "whole book" by himself. He finds the stories very amusing, and I have a hard time getting him to put them away. Wonderful choice for a child who is just learning to put words and sentences together.
