Summary: These books make reading fun for your child
Review: My son really didn't have any interest in learning to read. I purchased the "Bob Books" and he whizzed through the first 4 books in 20 minutes. With each book that he finishes his desire to read increases. It's a great self-esteem builder! I highly recommend this book series.

Summary: "I can read it myself!"
Review: My son started reading on his own and was having trouble getting through a whole Dr. Seuss without help. I wanted something more basic. When I looked at the Bob series, I thought it might be too basic, but it came highly recommended, so I bought it anyway.

First books out of the box, I was very disappointed. The binding is the same quality as a []magazine - staple through folded sheets of paper. The stories were so boring. The pictures so simplistic. Line drawings that look like someone doodled them during a boring meeting at work.

Then I watched my son. He actually read the words. Read every word. No making things up when the word was too hard. No making things up when he thought he knew what was next. He actually read.

And since the words were simple, he was able to pay attention to the story at the same time. On the other books, he was reading the words - but not getting the story. With the Bob books, he laughed and giggled. He is getting practice now. When he gets to where he can read the whole first series without a mis-step, we'll start the second series.

Reading take practice and going through the simple stuff until you can read words at a time instead of letters at a time is great. Boring as all get out for the grown up - but great for the kid.

Do NOT get these books for a 2 or 3 year old thinking that they can learn early. They will just tear the books up.

Do NOT get these to read to your kids. You'll just fall asleep.

DO get these when your child is ready to learn on their own. They will love the satisfaction of reading a whole book themselves. And you will enjoy seeing them get better with each reading.

I honestly thought I was wasting my money. I can honestly say that I was wrong. This was worth every penny and then some. I now know what my daughter's first book will be....

Summary: My Three-Year-Old Can Read!
Review: Of all the books I have purchased for my son, this is has been the most encouraging. I have been teaching my son phonics on my own, and sounding out words on a flashcard was becoming dull. I knew he understood the basic concepts of reading, but I couldn't find anything interesting to him that he could actually read. Bob Books are amazing! The little storybooks are THE perfect first reading books for any child. They feature simple, easy-to-sound-out three letter words with interesting storylines. There are 12 mini-books which progress phonetically as each book has been completed. Included are character finger puppets, which I recommend saving for after the books have been read the first time (so the child can focus). The puppets provide extra motivation. My son adores these books. He read the books the very first time I opened the box! Both mommy and son are thrilled! I strongly urge parents to jumpstart their children's reading with these books.

Summary: Yep! These are good ones.
Review: Once a child knows the basic letter sounds, he or she is ready for Bob books! I have 6 kids, and we homeschool. I used other books for my 2 oldest, but my son Alex began reading with Bob Books. He loves them!

They are written at a perfect gradient, beginning with 3-letter, short vowel sound words. They are written just as I would have written them!

I do wish the books were larger in size (not more pages, just bigger pages) and the pictures are just drawings - no color. An improvement of better, more colorful pictures and larger pages would get a 5-star vote from me.

These are great tools, and I recommend them for every beginning reader.

Summary: True "Learn to Read" book
Review: Our first set of "Bob Books" came as a recommendation from a bookstore owner to my mom. I was amazed at how quickly both my daughters, at the age of 4, learned to read. The format is perfect, not overdone and intimidating for young people. My children absolutely beam everytime they finish another book. We have ordered the entire "Bob Books" series. I'd like to see a progressive series for further learning.

Summary: Great for Learning to Read
Review: The Bob Books are great to use for a beginning reader. Most "beginning" books include a number of sight words. The Bob Books start with very simple words and very short stories. My son did not feel frustrated trying to accomplish reading the book since it introduced only a few sounds at a time.

Grownups may feel the books are too basic. However, that is exactly what I was looking for to help my son learn to read. They were great at building my son's self-esteem and his reading progress has really taken off.

Summary: My son learned to read from these books
Review: These are great books! My son quickly learned to read using the Bob Books. We actually only used the first 2 sets and by then he was on a roll and reading all sorts of things. The books are in black and white with simple drawings and easy for the kids to follow along. My son enjoyed the stories in each book and the drawings. I highly recommend this series to anyone wanting to teach their child to read.

Summary: Good idea - just needs to use real names
Review: These books have a very good idea - use simple short stories so that children have the satisfaction of reading a whole book on their own. However, many of the names of the characters are not real names (or least not common). What kind of name is Pog or Pip? I realize that children need to learn new words, but right now I'm trying to get my child to read at all. After much sounding out, he'll say "Pog? What's Pog?" I think it would be much better if he could sound it out and say "Juh. Ii. Mmmm. Jim! That's Jim!"

Summary: Love the Bob Books
Review: These books were recommended to me by a friend. My son loves them and they've set him on the road to reading on his own. Sure, most kids enjoy a bedtime story, but that's never been a big thrill for our older boy. Until the Bob Books came along. Now he likes to end the day by reading these books to US!

The pictures are very simple -- basically line drawings with minimal detail; just enough detail to offer kids a hint if they are stuck.

My only complaint is that in their effort to keep the books simple some of the sentences sound stilted. "Dot did nap," isn't something anyone in your home is going to say. However, "Dot napped," would defeat the purpose of the books. I wouldn't even mention it except my son said, "That doesn't make any sense," when he read that line.

Buy the books, read the (short) parents guide and sit down with you child to share the wonder of independent reading.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent First Readers
Review: These first readers are excellent. There are small black and white line drawings and simple words based on a phonetic approach. The first books introduce the basic sounds of the alphabet in their easiest form.

My son knows the sounds of his alphabet and was able to read the first three books in this set with no problem.

The black and white drawings can be used to have further discussion- what did this character look like? Is he happy to have a cat sit one him? There is not extra information in the drawing to distract the kids. The drawings add to the text rather than distract from the words.

The books are short and easy to read and will give a child who has a basic idea of the sounds of letters a success in reading.

Worth Every Penny.
Enjoy.
