Summary: Wow--
Review: The most wonderful book I have bought. The popups are literally out of this world and I understand the reviewer who was torn between keeping it for a collector item or enjoying it. I bought it for my great nieces...no way will they get it.

A must buy for anyone who enjoys books!

Summary: Talk about eye-candy! This book is marvelous!
Review: My parents bought this book for my 4.5 year old daughter, and believe me, we are keeping this one out of the hands of her book-destroying 1.5 year old brother. What a magnificent book! Every page has a beautiful pop-up, and not only the page itself, but the accompanying text pages attached to each page. Such creativity and technological wonders. Seriously! My daughter saw this in the store while we were on vacation, and spent about 10 minutes on the plane, quietly spinning the wizard's balloon. If that isn't worth the price, then what is? 10 minutes of quiet on an airplane? The man in the seat next to us couldn't keep his eyes off it... even he was fascinated.

Newsweek just featured this book in their December 11, 2000 issue in their article about the best new kids' books (see p.72). They even show the Emerald City pop-up on their table of contents page.

I am sure that as long as we can protect this book from our precious little one-man-wrecking crew, it will be a treasured heirloom for many years-to-come. Would make a fabulous gift for the holidays.

Summary: Ah, the great book debate
Review: Here is my dilemma: do i keep this book in the platic wrapping it came in (it is just a bag sealed with tape, so I can remove it and look at it) or do I put this book on my bookshelf where I can enjoy it, and look at it and let it wear away?

Yes, this book is that good. The artwork is a direct homage to the simple stylings of WW Denslows original illustrations (as compared to the very complex John O'Neill art nouveau drawings in the later books.) Robert Sabuda is a genius, and deserves much praise for his wonderful work here. I show it to everybody who stops by, like a little kid. This book just does something to me, but see for yourself..buy it, and you may also be like me, and considering buying a second copy to keep and one to display... I hope to see much more of Sabuda's work in the future.

Summary: Not your average pop-up!!
Review: The Wizard of Oz has been a favorite story of mine since I was very small. Now I have a 6 yr old daughter. She is hooked on it too. When I saw this book, I had to have it. The pop-ups are so intricately detailed and wonderfully engineered! I am very impressed. Every time I go through it, I find something new. This is one to put away for posterity. Wonderful price for such a phenomenal book.

Summary: Fabulous book for children
Review: I bought this book for my seven year old daughter. Over the years I have taught her how to handle books with respect, especially her pop-up books. She is a reluctant reader, and I am thrilled that she revisits this book over and over. The colors and shiny papers are beautiful. The way the buildings, flowers, and even a hot air ballon blossom out of the pages is awe-inspiring. Robert Sabuda is a mastermind at paper engineering. You will be absolutely thrilled when you get this book in the mail from Amazon.

Summary: There's no place like a Robert Sabuda pop-up!
Review: I just have to disagree with the folks who say this is not a book for children...this is THE book for children! If you are looking for a book to give this holiday season that rates 100% on the "oooh-ahhhh!" meter, this is the one. Any child, in particular a reluctant reader, will be dazzled and fascinated by the Emerald City jumping to life in the middle of the book, the whirling balloon and spinning tornado. The artwork warrants accolades even without the magnificent engineering, and there is enough text to make this pop-up perfect for older kids as well. This book does great honor to the Wonderful Wizard, and will be as treasured in your home as a pair of ruby slippers. Whether or not this book actually survives the twister of children's handling, you'd be a real wicked witch not to share it with your favorite munchkin.

Summary: Spectacular Experience!
Review: This is one of the most amazing pop-up books I have ever seen! The book literally comes to life in your hands! It's as complex and delicate as a victorian clockwork automaton, and thereby most definitely NOT for children (I can't imagine handing this to a preschooler - what horror!). Easily one of the best books I've bought in years!...

Summary: THE BEST ADULT'S KIDS BOOK
Review: QUITE SIMPLY, THIS IS THE MOST FASCINATING CHILDRENS BOOK THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN. ALTHOUGH IT IS TOO DELICATE FOR THE KIDS TO ACTUALLY TOUCH, AS A PARENT I HAVE ENJOYED ITS BEAUTY AND ARTWORK, BUT AS AND ADULT I AM FACINATED BY THE "ENGINEERING."

Summary: A popup that's a home run!
Review: This is a wonderfully intricate, beautiful popup book. Perhaps a bit delicate for an unassisted young child, it will work well with an adult reading the book to a child.

A must for every Oz collector and every popup collector!

My favorite is the tornado that spins while it pops up, or maybe it's the Wizard's free floating (almost) hot air balloon!

About 10 full 10 to 12 double-page popups, with most having additionall smaller popups on the side or bottom of the page.

This will make a wonderful Christmas present!

Summary: ASTOUNDING
Review: In an earlier review, I called Robert Sabuda a genius. Now I see that that description undervalues him! This book is one of the finest Pop-Up books you will ever read. Sabuda has distilled the story down into its most distinctive scenes, and used some of the most startling and imaginative paper-engineering to bring this magical tale to life. The book kicks off with a real spinning tornado and continues with pages that will have you saying, "Wow!", even if you're alone. The penultimate page is a jaw-dropper!

If you're used to pop-up books with "Pull Here" tabs, then you may be a little disappointed. You enjoy Sabuda's skill with your eyes - his creations explode into life from the flat pages into works of art. Even more astonishing is the fact that he's still found a way of telling this classic tale with words too - the way he's combined the "mini-pages" of text with "mini pop-ups" is truly revolutionary.

HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
