Rating: Summary: Hysterical read for kids AND parents! Review: "Diary of a Worm" is a prime example of how the right combination of illustrator and author can make an amazing book!As part of the Junior Girl Scout "Books Badge," I asked my 12-year-old Girl Scouts to read a review of "Diary of a Worm," then read the book and see if they agreed with the reviewer's opinion. Well, those 12-year-olds were soon cracking up at the idea of a worm diary, but they laughed even more at the directions in which the illustrator took the diary entries. When the little boy worm writes, "July 4... When I grow up, I want to be a Secret Service agent..." my girls roared at the picture of two little worm agents in sunglasses and earpieces, wearing black suit jackets (no pants, of course). They laughed even harder as one girl pointed out, "Look! He drew the jacket with sleeves, but they've got no arms to put in them!" How funny are these little details? Take a close look at: a dentist whose name tag reads "Dr. D. Kay"; macaroni necklaces consisting of one piece of macaroni that completely encircles the worm's neck; and the books that the worm is dragging home from school, with the titles "DIGGING - A History" or "Compost 101." The funniest bits, however, are the illustrations on the book's endpapers! They are meant to look like the little worm's scrapbook, and have family photos with his captions written underneath. A picture of him with a baseball says "I found this really cool rock!" Another drawing is a corner of a $20 bill with the caption "Isn't this leaf awesome?" My five year old son adores this book. AND so do I, AND so do all of my 12 year old Girl Scouts! No mean feat (or feet, either!) (sorry, couldn't resist a "feet" joke) We all HIGHLY recommend this book. :-)
Rating: Summary: It's a bigger world than you think! Review: "I told her that no matter how many times she looked in the mirror, her face would always look like her rear end..." is one of the hilarious lines in Diary of a Worm. Diary of a Worm is a wonderful book by Doreen Cronin. This book is for any and all ages. Harry Bliss made wonderful illistrations to go along with this wonderful story. When The Man Who Walked Between the Towers won the Caldecott medal, I thought that they forgot about Diary of a Worm. I read The Man Who Walked Between the Towers and I thought Diary of a Worm was better. In the back of the book there was a half eaten twenty dollar bill and underneath it was, "Isn't this leaf awesome?" So I think thiis book should have won the Caldecott.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious Review: Another hilarious book for parents and children to enjoy together. Cronin's books will make you laugh out loud. A really great story that my 6 yr old enjoys being read and reading herself. Check out Giggle Giggle quack and Click Clack moo too!

It's a good family book For example the worm spends alot of time with his family. He tells his adventures with his family. The illastrations are very colorful and the book is really funny. I think this book should win the Caldacot award.

Rating: Summary: Niiiiiice Review: Even though Diary of a Worm may not be good enough for the Caldecott Award, it is a very creative book. Many books are not as creative as this one. I think many adults & children will love this one of a kind, vivid book. Great illustrations and humor!
Rating: Summary: Want A good Book????? THEN READ THIS! Review: First of all, I'd like to point out that the cartoonist, Harry Bliss, is a genuis for his awesome pictures. This book is so funny! This book should have won the Caldecott Award. On each side of the cover, it shows a hilarious scrap book. I love this book. The illustrations are the funniest. When you read this book, I can guarantee, no matter how old you are, a good laugh. In conclusion, THIS BOOK ROCKS!
Rating: Summary: Such a Great Book! Review: I bought this book when it first came out and have shared it with so many people who love it! This book is a hoot! A little worm keeps a journal, sharing daily life from a worm's perspective and it's very funny - such as "Dad was busy eating the newspaper" and worries about fishing season starting or trying to make it across a playground blacktop with kids jumping rope. I just love this book! The illustrations are wonderful, but the text is excellent. Just one of the best books I own! Kids love it, too, of course!
Rating: Summary: Delightful Story With Wonderful Illustrations! Review: I had no idea what to expect of a book about a worm. Boy was I surprised! This delightful book goes through several months in the life of a little boy worm - things he has to put up with, his strengths and weaknesses - his fears - and lots of fun things he does. You really like this worm, his friends and family - even his vain sister. My son loves the illustrations and pours over each page each time he reads it. As bizarre as it seems, every child seems fascinated by worms - and this book helps you understand why! Prepare to smile!
Rating: Summary: A New Favorite that is LOL funny! Review: I have a new favorite. This worm's diary is laugh out loud funny from cover to end page. Bliss' illustrations add more humor on top of Cronin's entertaining story. For example, the dentist in the story is wearing a nametag that says Dr. D. Kay and our hero gets a note in his lunch to "eat all your trash". There's even a little ecology lesson about the benefits of worms. Who knew worms could be so appealing. Highly recommended.
