Summary: Holes
Review: I highly recommend Holes by, Lois Sachar. It's a book about a boy named Stanly who calmed that a thousand dollar shoes just fell out of the sky and the Judge didn't believe him. So he could go to jell or go to Camp Green Lake where he would have to dig a five feet hole every day find out which one he picks by reading Holes.

Summary: Gripping
Review: I initially wanted read Holes to see what all the fuss was about and to determine if I should buy it for some nieces and nephews for the holidays. Well, I read it in one sitting - just couldn't put it down.

The piece is very disturbing at first, demanding and bleak but realistic with a touch of the magic to come. The beginning can be a little hard to get through, almost depressing. But the rewards are ample and well worth the emotional journey.

Stanley Yelnats is an unlikely yet likeable protagonist who's evolution and growth is gradual and encouraging and totally believeable. I can imagine that many young adolescents will really relate to this "outsider". He gives us all hope. Yet for all Stanley's troubles and adventures, Sacher has given him a pair of loving and totally supportive parents. Yes, Stanley is the hero who comes to the rescue, but his parents are not fools and, in the end, do some growing of their own. How refreshing!

I'll not only give this book to various youngsters on my holiday list, but several adults will find it in their stockings as well.

Grab an onion, a canteen of fresh water, put your shovel down and enjoy!

Summary: a WONDERFUL engaging book for all ages
Review: I just closed this book, and I loved it. This book is not just for young readers. Adults will enjoy it as well. I have read other Sachar books, but I found Holes to have it all. I love the way the story unfolds through the use of flashbacks, and the final resolution was so satisfying. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: AMAZING
Review: I just finished Holes and I am absolutely amazed...who ever thought that a book seemingly about boys who dig holes all day long could be such a page turner! The way Sachar ties every detail in the book together is absolute genious. I am simply in awe of this book!

Summary: Absolutely Spectacular! 1
Review: I just finished reading Holes and it had absolutely everything you ever want in a young readers book! I'm currently an elementary education major and I am DEFINITELY getting this book for my classroom library. It had action, adventure, and the way everything just came together at the end was the absolute BEST! I loved Sachar's flavor, "You will have to fill in the holes yourself" in the last chapter. It was genius. I loved it and I'm going to recommend it to everyone, young or old, I know! What a wonderful experience!

Summary: How to Tame a Fifth Grade Class
Review: I just finished reading Holes to my Fifth Graders. They were entranced, begging to hear it and groaning when I stopped. They enjoyed the story flashbacks and kept trying to guess the warden's connection to K.B. It is truly one of those books that hook kids on reading.
