Rating: Summary: Holes Review Review: A pair of 10-year old girls in New York Holes is a fantastic book. It's about a boy named Stanley, he has bad luck. He gets arrested for something he didn't do and goes to Camp Green Lake. He doesn't realize that it's not a camp and doesn't have a lake. It is almost like a desert. The warden makes all the boys dig a hole per day. There was a boy there named Zero and Stanley was teaching him how to read and write for a trade of Zero digging part of his hole. Zero hated to dig holes so one day he ran away, Stanley going after him. He found Zero in a boat, he survived by drinking "sploosh". Stanley noticed the weird shape of the mountain, it looked like a thumbs-up. They climbed the mountain and they survived by drinking dirty water and eating onions. This is all that we're going to say because we want you to read this fantastic book!
Rating: Summary: Torture at Camp Green Lake Review: A review by BenjaminThere is no lake at Camp Green Lake. This is what Stanley Yelnats finds out when he is accused of stealing some used shoes. You see, he didn't actually take them; they just fell from the sky! Well, at Camp Green Lake the warden makes every kid dig one five by five foot hole each day. Sounds crazy! Well, she is looking for a treasure that's buried under the surface, somewhere. Stanley and his friend run away, toward the big thumb (a mountain that is in the shape of a "thumbs-up" sign). The only problem is, the camp has the only water for a long ways. This book was superbly written. It had a plot that never stopped. The beginning hooked my attention and didn't let go until I put the book down. Sachar's creative edge was seen in every word of the story. It kind of showed two stories, it kept going back and forth. One story told the tale of Stanley's adventure, the other of Camp Green Lake 100 years ago, before the drought. The characters were well described, to every last detail. Zero, Stanley's friend, was his only companion beside his family. They hiked up the mountain together. Stanley carried zero up the rest of the way when he passed out because of the heat. X-ray, the leader of Stanley's bunkmates, was also well described; Along with all of the other characters. I would stalwartly recommend this book to anyone who wants a good laugh, or anyone who just wants a fun read. It is fairly easy, but very creative and downright entertaining.
Rating: Summary: An Adventure at Green Lake Camp Review: A Review by Matt A boy named Stanly Yelnats is a part of a curse that has been passed on through the generations of his family. It started with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. Now Stanly has found a pair of stolen shoes and is accused of stealing them. He is given a choice. He could either go to a juvenile correctional facility or he could go to Camp Green Lake. There is no water at Camp Green Lake. At Camp Green Lake the boys spend all day digging because it builds character. After a while Stanly realizes there is a reason the boys are digging. They are looking for something. But what could be at the bottom of a dry lake? This book is a wonderful tale of crime, punishment and redemption. Holes keeps up an easy pace that allows the reader to go on for hours. Holes is an easy read for little children, but is still interesting and held my attention through the whole story. There is some way for anyone to relate themselves to any character in the book. The characters feel real and the way they act amongst each other is just like real life. There will be a movie, but just like other books that are turned into movies; I think the book will still be the best. I think this is a great book and everyone should read it at least once. If you like mystery books you will like Holes. This was a great book.

Rating: Summary: Best book ever written Review: According to my 10-year old daughter this is the best book ever written. Yes, even better than Harry Potter. My daughter wanted to see the movie but I bought her the book to read first. She kept her nose in the book at every free moment. Anytime we were in the car, she was reading. If we were in the grocery store, she was sitting in the grocery cart reading. At night after tucking her in I would catch her reading this book by the glow of her flashlight. My daughter is an avid reader but I've never seen her fall in love with a book the way she did this one. If you're a parent that's trying to decide whether or not to purchase this book, buy it! My daughter has since finished her Holes book. The cover is bent and some of the pages have fallen out because she literally took this book everywhere she went.
Rating: Summary: This book is a circle, as is Stanley Yelnats' name! Review: Adored the interweaving of family histories, the humor and irony of the book. If it were in paperback, I'd buy a whole set for a literature circle with my class!
