Rating: Summary: Sachar is a smashing author Review: I had to read his book in class. I thought the book was going to be dull and boring. But it was so great. I enjoyed how all the characters changed. And I also enjoyed the irony he used. I liked the way the book was unpredictable. I came to amazon to search for more books like Holes or by the Louis Sachar. The lessons are so many and are important.
Rating: Summary: wow Review: i had to read many books for my children's lit class and this is by far the best one i've read. sachar writes so that you want to read--i read it in one sitting. i just couldn't put it down. the book is part fantasy, part comedy, part thriller. this is one newberry book that actually lives up to the acclaim.
Rating: Summary: HOLES REVIEW Review: I had to read the book Holes in reading class. It was about a boy named Stanley Yelnats that didn't do a crime but they still blamed him for it.He had to go to Camp Green Lake and dig holes. If he he found things he had to take to the warden. If the warden liked it, she would give them the rest of the day off. Why I didn't like this book is because it wasn't my kind of book to read. But I think the movie was great.
Rating: Summary: Holes is Great Review: I had to read this book for a graduate class. I was very impressed with the characters and how their behavior relates to today's teenagers. I have now read the book 2 more times and can't wait to see the movie. A must read.
Rating: Summary: Comedy, suspense, irony and so much more! Review: I had to read this book in preparation for my comprehensive exam to get my Master's degree. My Young Adult literature teacher told me it was a new book I had to read and analyze. All I can say is I am 23 years old and thought it was wonderful. The plot itself tickled me and then the use of suspense and the characters...I could go on and on. The best part were the connections of the past to present such as "Sploosh" and "Kiss Me Kate". I also loved the irony and how Sachar slipped in issues of race without being didactic about it. After my exam I am giving this book to my 15 year old brother and I know he will enjoy it even more than I did.
Rating: Summary: You ain't in Girl Scouts Boy! Review: I had to read this book over and over again because I loved it so much! I made sure all my friends read it so that they could enjoy it too! It all starts with poor, fat, lonely, Stanley Yelnats. As the book goes on it also tells you the story of Stanley's no good pig stealing rotten great great grandfather. That is when the curse began. It was all Stanley's great great grandfather's fault. Somehow Stanley is wrongly accused of stealing an Atheles shoue! Poor Stanley had the choice of child's jail OR Camp Greenlake. In the past Stanley's family had never been able to send him to camp. So he chooses camp. But, when he gets there he finds out that he must dig a hole 6 feet wide and 6 feet deep. They are also treated badly. But why must they dig holes? They are looking for something! Stanley's adventure is unforgetable and is one of the best books I have ever read! I highley recommend this book to anyone who has never read it.
Rating: Summary: Even Dad liked it Review: I had to wait for my nine year old son to put "Holes" down so I could continue to read it. I stayed up late one night and finished it before him. It was great fun to watch him read through the climax wide-eyed and slack-jawed until he finally came to put the final piece of the puzzle together in a great rush of amazement. This is a great novel. The characters are nearly cartoonish, yet not quite. A great tale of children taking control of their own situations.
Rating: Summary: very creative Review: I happen to be a very popular Librarian. I have witnessed and read every childs book Louis Sachar is a very creative man, even though it might not have as good of reviews as J.K Rowling's Harry Potter books. I, personnaly, like Harry Potter better.
Rating: Summary: Holes is a Great Class Pleaser Review: I have been reading Holes to my 4th grade class for the past few weeks. They are totally captivated by Stanley's adventures and are impatiently waiting for the ending. We have about 25 pages to go. In the last class while I was reading you couldn't hear a pin drop - a rarity for the end of the year! Holes fills the reader - and listener- up to the brim with excitement, suspense, amusement and anticipation. This is my third time reading the novel, and I have recommended it to all of my adult friends. It's a must for taking to the beach during the long summer vacation. Thank you, Louis Sachar, for another great book to inspire children to want to become better readers!
Rating: Summary: Holes - a masterpiece Review: I have found that many of my favorite books are those written for children and young adults, and this one is no exception. This book is so well-written, and the story is full of humor, and great unforgettable characters, It is about friendship, fate, the underdog, and is all tied up into a beautiful story. I believe kids and adults alike will love to read this book as they wait for the next edition of Harry Potter. It is no mistake that this book was awarded the Newberry Medal.
