Summary: No Holes in This Book
Review: I give the book Holes, by Louis Sacher five stars. Stanley Yelnats, the main character, has bad luck following him wherever he goes. Stanley winds up in the wrong place at the wrong time and gets accused of a time he did not commit. He is given the choice to either go to jail or a boy's juvenile detention camp, Camp Green Lake. He chooses camp. Soon Stanley finds out that there is no lake to swim in and there will be no fun at all. As a punishment everyday Stanley will have to dig a hole, five feet wide in all directions and five feet deep. The people who work at camp say that digging builds character. Stanley knowns that their must be some other reason why they are digging. But why? -J.A.

Summary: Holes
Review: I give this book Holes 3-½ stars. I especially like the part when they were in the lizard hole. After that they had to eat onions and drink muddy water, so they wouldn't get bit. And I like the part when zero had the lizard on his shoulder. I would recommend this to my closest friends.

Summary: This is a great book !
Review: I got this book for my Summer Book report. I've heard about it and some kids thought it was good so I decided to see what it was about. I didn't know if I was going to enjoy it or not, so I read the first couple of chapters. I just kept reading it and reading it. I was done in 2 days. It wasn't boring and the author, Louis Sachar wrote it in a kind of humorous way and it was so interesting, no wonder it got an award. I really recommend this book. You'll really enjoy it.

Summary: I couldn't put it down...
Review: I got this book in a lot of books. I flipped to the first page & read the first few pgs, after that I couldn't put it down. I read the entire book in 1 night (about 5 hours). Took me back to when I was a kid (okay i'm only 26, but still..).. This was a very enjoyable read & I highly recommend it.

Summary: Fill in the Holes
Review: I got this book yesterday and finished it last night because I couldn't put it down. I was intrigued with this story for three reasons. First, the utterly ridiculous must be believed in the context of the story and it seems normal. Wild things are happening all the time, and you must believe them. The completely typical (the counselor trying to council the children on their futures) is mixed in with the outright bizarre (a detention center where children have to dig holes every day for apparently no other reason than to build character) and by the end the author has us believing it all. Second, legends are explained. Frequently children hear legends that seem too extreme to possibility be true, but there is no other explanation. Parts of this story narrate what really happened to the people in legends and these stories logically lead to the legends that would eventually be told about them. Third, everything comes together in the end. When you pull on one side of a spider web something happens on the other side. What happens to one characters grandfather is likely going to affect him in ways no one would predict. There are so many great issues brought up in this simple story that make it great for discussion (but not too much dissection please). This is a great story for all ages, and I hope everyone gets a chance to read it.

Summary: great book
Review: I had heard that holes was a great book to read and I thought that I sould read it. I thought that it was a great book. it is a about a boy named Stanley how is sent to a correction center where you have to dig a hole that is five feet deep, and five feet across in all directions. I liked how about every other chapter they told a little of the towns history and it tells a little why they are digging the holes It is a great book and I think that you should really read this book

Summary: A Review for Adults who like Children's Lit
Review: I had never heard of this book but recently Entertainment Weekly described it as "a property that's almost as hot as 'Potter.'" I still read some childrens' books, partially for the nostalgia of books I loved as a child (E. Nesbit and so on) and partially because they are considered great new books (Phillip Pullman, for example). So I checked "Holes" out of the library and read it.

It is disappointingly slim - for a book that was compared to the Potter books, I expected a read of reasonable length - yet Holes took me all of 1.5 hours to read, and that included interludes to deal with my toddler, phone calls and so on. Still, I wanted to get to the end of it and see how it was.

In the end I considered this to be an interesting children's short story. There are nifty aspects to the story that pop up throughout. It is resolved satisfactorily and in keeping with most childrens' "feel-good" book endings. But I just can't consider this a "hot property." I'd not consider purchasing it. My son is only three, so he won't understand it yet - and I don't believe it will continue to be a "classic of children's literature" (if you can call it that) when he gets old enough to enjoy it.

Yes, I know it's won awards, and I'm happy for the author. A movie has been made, and it appears it is shorter to read the book than to sit through the movie! Certainly a cinematic first. Well, read and enjoy, but don't expect a lot. For "a property as hot as 'Potter'" I was rather disappointed.

Summary: A bit different, but good!
Review: I had read several other Louis Sachar books a few years ago, and always enjoyed them because of how funny they were. This book however was not quite as humerous, but still really good. It was quite different from any books I've read. I really enjoyed it though. I especially love the way that the ending somes everything up, and connects with the things you learned in the beginning of the book. If you are a young teen, you will get a kick out of this book!
