Rating: Summary: Holes Review: I gave this book a five because I thought this book fit me well. I enjoy mysterious, and funny books. this book was perfect for me. Louis Sachar did a wonderful writing the book and characters , he give a very extensive background of the main character Stanley Yelnats, and sets the scenes very well using imagery and descriptive diction. Stanley Yelnats is just a very unlucky boy, who is in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is walking under a bridge and a pair of shoes falls on his head. He take the shoes not knowing that the shoes where just stolen. A police officer stops Stanley, see him holding the shoes and arrests him on the spot. Stanley has to go to Camp Green Lake, this is his punishment. The is a dried up lake bed, and it is not so green anymore. AT the camp Stanley meets the head counselor Mr. Sir. Mr. Sir tells Stanley that at the camp they do anything except dig holes. They say that digging holes builds character, and respect. Stanley has to dig these holes until his sentence is up, mean while he meets the other boys and tries to make friends with them. He only makes on friend Zero. The two boys develop and good friendship. Later on the story takes a few twists for the better and the worse. Stanley and zero run away from the camp, into the hot dessert. The only problem with them running away is they have no water to drink. Stanley and Zero find a patch of onions and a pool of water in the mountains. The two boys camp out on the mountain until they gain their strength back. From here the book gets real interesting. Louis Sachar uses foreshadowing to make the book more interesting and suspenseful, he also uses descriptive diction to set scenes, and describing all the characters. I really enjoyed this book I would recommend this story to anyone who loves to read a exciting and suspenseful books.
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: I gave this book four stars because it was a good book. When I was at St. Ambrose, Mrs. Clark, our English teacher was reading it to us. I think the book is pretty funny but good at the same time. It has an imaginative plotting and memorable characters. I would remember their names because they have weird names. It was funny too. Because the names were weird the characters were silly and funny. I would recommend this book to fifth graders and up with a good sense of humor. It has hard words that they can understand.

Rating: Summary: Holes review Review: I gave this book three stars. In the begining the book talks about how Stanley's family becomes cursed. The curse is broken when Stanley carries Zero up the mountain. The ending was not very good. It talked about how Stanley's father created a foot oder elimenater. It tuned out that Zero was the one who stole the shoes.
