Rating: Summary: A book for kids who don't read for fun, or so they think!! Review: I bought this incredible book after a reccommendation from a friend. I read it first, before my son. I read this book in 3 days, between housework and activities. I could not put it down. Then I gave it to my 11 year old son and said, "Just read two pages, that's all." He read thirty pages. In less than a week he finished the book. Now we talk about the story all the time. He loved it. This book is for kids, parents, you name it. I will never forget this book!!
Rating: Summary: the best book in the world Review: I can not stop its to good i have the book no
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: I can picture what its like to be in his position. The author was really good at describing where they were and what they were doing. When the author described them diging the holes I felt as if I were hot and thirsty and tired. I liked how I would never know what was going to happen next. The ending was great!
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: I can't exactly decribe Holes by Louis Sachar in words. I started reading the book because I had nothing else to do, and frankly the only reason I kept reading to see what happened to Stanley. Then the plot got better and better, and when they introduced Zero I couldn't put the book down. When I got to the end, I was just in awe. Totally amazed. It had a cool twist in it that made you smile with a smile that seemed too big for your face. When you finished the book it made you want to read it over...but in a way you don't to because you don't want to ruin the book by over reading it. In a way this book kind of opened my eyes. I don't really know how or why--I just know. Once you read the book you'll know what I mean. And just as a little ironic after thought, think about this: In the book Stanley repeatedly thinks that what happened to him was destiny. Well, as soon as I finished this book, I opened a little book my aunt gave me and turned to a page I made when I was bored of a list of things I love. I added one thing-Holes. I closed the book still smiling and guess what word I read on the front cover--destiny.
Rating: Summary: BUY THIS BOOK! Review: I can't recommend this book more emphatically. I have handed it to everyone I know and they all love it. Sachar is one of the best storytellers I have ever encountered. His ability to pull every detail together to form an out of this world ending is remarkable. Almost, almost, better than Harry Potter. It's a coin toss!
Rating: Summary: ? Review: I can't very good in English, I'm from Holland you know, but I must made a review for my teacher dutch, but thank you for this information. It's a wonderfull book and I hope that Louis Sachar will soon publiced more books of him in Holland.Regards, Lisette
Rating: Summary: Trash Review: I cannot believe this trash is marketed to 9 to 12 year olds. To let my 81/2 year old read about lynchings and teachers shooting sheriffs in the head is a bit much for his young mind. Once again the only heroes in the story are either women or black men. All the bad, lazy, drunken, no-good characters are white males - like my son.
Rating: Summary: This Book Rocks!!!! Review: I checked Holes out from our school library. I fell in love with it the first time I read it. Louis Sachar is a great auther. I say you should buy Holes, Sideways Stories from Wayside School, Wayside School is Falling Down and all of the other Louis Sachar books.
Rating: Summary: boy who goes to camp for no reason! Review: I chose this book because Louis Sachar is one of my favorite authors. I also chose this book because when I read what the story was about, it sounded like a great book. When I started reading the book, I just wanted to keep reading. Holes is about a character named Stanley. Stanley got sent to a place called Camp Green Lake because he was blamed for stealing shoes that belonged to a famous baseball player, Clyde Livingston. In Camp Green Lake he made some friends, Zero, Zigzag, Armpit, and X-ray. They all have to dig holes that are 5 feet deep and 5 feet wide. If they find something while digging, they're suppose to give it to the Warden. The Warden is a woman who is in charge of Camp Green Lake. What is exciting about the book is when Zero runs away and Stanley tries to go and find him. For all you who read my review I would personally read this book or at least give it a try. If people liked it, it would be spectacular to read. It's a fun book to read, but it is not very funny.
Rating: Summary: Holes, by Louis Sachar (December 15, 2001) Review: I chose to read this book because, when I was little, I always tried to dig a hole to China. I thought this book would bring back some of the fun memories because the title of the book is "Holes". I thought this book would be about kids fulfilling a dream of digging a hole to China. After reading this story, I felt that it was weird in an interesting kind of way. I thought the book was kind of what I expected and kind of not what I expected. The part that I expected was that children were digging holes. The part that I didn't expect was that it was a boys' detention camp to build character. I don't feel the same about the book because it isn't about kids digging a hole to China and it is much different than I expected. I liked the book because it was interesting and you got the feeling that you needed to keep on reading it because it was so thrilling. I felt this way because in one part Stanley escapes from the camp and doesn't know where to go, and you think he might die because he can't find any water for a long time. I disliked the book because it was sort of starnge. The boys had to dig holes for their punishment, but the holes weren't used for anything else. I liked this book more than I disliked it. I recommend reading it as long as you understand that it is sort of different. I recommend this book for ages ten to twelve. I give my book a **** rating. A thrilling page-turner! Gaby Waldron
