Rating: Summary: lucia"s review Review: I believe the book was very good and interseting but the thing that I did not like was when stanley was in the wrong place at the wrong time because he was accsed of something he did not do.
Rating: Summary: What a great book!! Review: I borrowed this book from a friend because he said it was hillarious, so I decided to try it out. I am not a usual reader of books, so I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it. But, I loved it. It was excellent because he sort of lets you think what's going to happen on your on. He mixes a history that relates to the story with the actual events occuring. It makes you think,"Hey, that's Sam from the history!" This book was so good, I completed it in 2 days. I am going to use this book for my oral report in my English class.
Rating: Summary: Borrowed my daughter's book-and LOVED it! Review: I borrowed this book from my daughter (after she finished it, of course)! She took this book home from school one day, and was really hesitant to read it, she said it sounded "boring, why would I want to read about holes", etc... (Typical 10-year old). She loves to read, so I didn't understand why she made this fuss about it. Well, she read it in one sitting-she LOVED it! She could not put it down. She told me I should read it- Well, you know how adults can't usually stand to read kids books! I picked it up one night and started reading it, and I couldn't put it down, either. It's a GREAT book! Adventurous, humorous, scary at times, really just fascinating reading. I highly recommend this book to any kid over the age of about 9. It could be kind of scary to some sensitive kids, though, so there's your warning. This is one of the Best kids books I have ever read. (I wish it was around when I was that age)! Buy this book-you will not regret it.
Rating: Summary: A nice little book but hardly worth the hoopla Review: I bought this book as a gift for a young relative who had finished all the Harry Potter books, and decided to read it myself first. It was interesting, but I kept waiting to get "hooked" into the book and it never happened. I thought the plot was interesting, but slight. It was not a bad little book, but I would still take Harry Potter any day. I could hardly put down the Harry Potter books but this one I had to keep forcing myself to pick up.
Rating: Summary: It's time to fill in the Holes! Review: I bought this book for my 11 year old cousin. His whole family read it and loved it. When he asked me if I wanted to borrow it, I took it from him eagerly. I read it through quickly in one sitting. It was just such and absorbing story. Sachar is an amazing story teller. The way he was able to weave tale among tale together so tightly was unbelievable. Reading this book reminded me of sitting with my grandfather at the breakfast table as he interwove tales of our family history with those of his days in the army. Piecing together the different elements of the story was fun. I'm sure children would enjoy trying to figure everything out just as much as I did. I thought the friendship between Stanley and Zero was very touching. It made me feel all warm inside knowing that Stanley was not angry when he learned the 'truth' and was in fact thankful. He was happy for his experiences at Camp Green Lake. He was happy for making his first true friend. This book proves that it IS lucky to have a palindrome name!
Rating: Summary: WOW--what a book! Review: I bought this book for my 13 year old daughter because I saw it won the Newberry. Thought I would scan it before I gave it to her--I read straight for ten hours--could not put it down. Thought I was reading Cormier. It is intense, whacky, and an all around good read...
Rating: Summary: Strange but thought provoking Review: I bought this book for my 13 year old son. He read it in one afternoon and we had a good discussion about the choices made by the main characters. He wanted me to read it, too. So I did. Interesting. Some parental discussion is useful because the situation in the book is quite extreme.
Rating: Summary: aletha Review: I bought this book on tape a few years ago for my children. They have listened to it together and separately at least 10 times. We have bought the book since then for them to read and have given this book away to a lot of others since then. It is a story that is sure to intrigue and amuse kids and adults. It pulls you into it immediately and then keeps you there the whole way. The ending is great.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book!!!! Review: I bought this book without really expecting what it would be like. It sat on my shelf for awhile and I finally got bored and decided to take a look at it. This book blew me away! I wanted to kick myself for leaving it there the whole time!! Well it definitely exceeded my expectations. I expected it to be a real drag but the story is immediately engrossing and it's really hard to put down! For the parents who may think that the story may be a bit intense for younger readers, rest assured that it isn't as scary and sinister as the blurb makes it out to be. This book was a breeze to read and I really love it!! No library should be without this book! It's totally awesome!!!!! :-)
